🌟 Why Qualifications Don’t Define Talent at Interstellr 🌟
Lately, i’ve been questioned numerous times as to why we at Interstellr don’t prioritise formal qualifications when scouting talent, and go through the interview and hiring process.
Some of these questions follow along the lines of:
• “Aren’t you scared the candidates won’t be as qualified?”
• “Do they have real-world experience?”
• “How can you guarantee their work is at a professional level?”
These are no-doubt valid concerns, however, here’s a peek into our philosophy.
We look deeper than degrees. A piece of paper can say someone is proficient/accredited in any industry. Skills, creativity, and the drive to learn ALWAYS tells us more about a candidate than a certificate.
Experience doesn’t always come from the job market. Many on our team, including myself, are entirely self-taught, bringing invaluable insights, knowledge and thought processes from our unique journeys.
Professionalism and excellence aren’t confined to academia. At Interstellr, we nurture a culture where continuous improvement and responsibility are key. Some of our team members don’t always like being public-facing, and enjoy being the creatives they are, creating aesthetically pleasing and scalable software products. We respect this, and all work together to ensure everyone is comfortable with their assigned tasks and/or roles, and assist wherever we all possibly can.
Thinking differently has not only shaped my approach to education but also my professional network. I’ve had the opportunity to work with and learn from Head Software Engineers at leading companies like DoorDash, Uber, Tyro, Apple, Google, Microsoft, Hubster, and Deliverect. These experiences have enriched my perspective and accelerated both my professional growth and Interstellr's growth beyond what I thought was originally possible.
Speaking personally, as someone with Aspergers Syndrome (ASD) and being entirely self-taught, I understand the value of thinking differently. I’ve learnt that some of the most innovative minds in tech often follow non-traditional paths.
