New Post: MiB: Michael Rockefeller, Woodline Partners -     This week, we speak with Michael Rockefeller, Co-Chief Investment Officer and co-founder of Woodline Partners. The firm launched in 2019 with around $2 billion in initial assets, and became one of the fastest-growing emerging funds over the past few years. They now manage $7 billion in assets. The hedge fund implements a market-neutral equity strategy, focused on generating “idiosyncratic alpha” and “avoiding systemic risk factors.” Previously, he worked as a Portfolio Manager at Citadel Global Equities and as an Analyst at Millennium Management. We discuss why Woodline does not focus on Macro events, as they are market-neutral. They seek out the best and worst stocks in various sectors to run a long short portfolio. 🚨 BlackRock agrees to acquire Preqin for £2.55 billion (~$3.2 billion) News broke late last night that BlackRock made strategic plans to expand it's Aladdin platform by adding Preqin's complementary private markets data solution to its offering. Key Financial Highlights ▪ ~$240M recurring revenue (99% recurring) with a 20% 3-Year CAGR ▪ 13x 2024E revenue multiple ▪ Value creation potential of identified synergies results in an estimated IRR of ~18% Some of you might be asking yourselves so what, why should we care? The private markets sector is experiencing the fastest growth in asset management, with alternative assets expected to reach around $40 trillion by 2030. Furthermore, the private markets data market is currently estimated at $8 billion and is set to reach $18 billion by 2030. With the Aladdin platform, BlackRock supports over 1,000 clients with technology solutions. The merger of Preqin and eFront in Aladdin’s private markets solution consolidates data, research, and the investment process for fund managers and investors in fundraising, deal sourcing, portfolio management, accounting, and performance. So what's next? As of now, Preqin is expected to continue operating independently however, Sudhir Nair, Global Head of Aladdin, pointed out “Together with Preqin, we can make private markets investing easier and more accessible while building a better-connected platform for investors and fund managers. Risk-averse limited partners tend to gravitate to fund managers with a long track record, but are they missing out on potential upside by avoiding emerging managers? Despite a steady decline in fundraising share over the past decade, emerging managers have proven their mettle in the private markets. Top decile buyout funds from newer managers outperformed seasoned peers by an impressive 6.6 percentage points for 2015-2018 vintages. Venturing into the lower middle market and creative roll-up strategies, these nimble investors offer differentiated opportunities that established firms may overlook. As the recent boom years have separated the truly dedicated emerging managers from the lucky, limited partners are taking notice. Major pension funds are betting big on emerging manager programs, recognizing the potential for outsized returns in an increasingly competitive landscape. 📜 A report from Bain & Company study of 418 high-net-worth to ultra-high-net-worth individuals found that 53% of individual #investors with $5 million or more in assets plan to raise their alternatives allocation over the next three years, primarily for improved diversification (60% of respondents), for higher returns (25%), and based on advisor recommendations (15%). The survey found that the main reasons to accelerate allocations to alternatives are enhanced liquidity (59% of respondents), increased holdings transparency (45%), better performance of alternatives (45%), and easier access to alternatives products (38%), which #tokenization of real-world assets can offer The opportunity to expand into the individual investor segment has led major alternatives managers such as Blackstone, KKR, The Carlyle Group, and Apollo Global Management, Inc. to sharpen their focus on individual investors for future growth and look into RWA tokenization industry. #rwa #cryptocurrencies #invest #investors

#novumcapitalpartners In its 2024 outlook, BlackRock presented an interesting hypothesis: "What if you were able to accurately predict U.S. equity sector returns with perfect foresight?" As it turns out, rebalancing once or twice has yielded a much higher return in the new regime, which started in 2020, than the old regime. This experiment highlights the potential for an active approach to add value in the new regime, compared with a buy-and-hold strategy.
