With the average German discarding about 5.5 kilograms of clothes per year, there's a substantial need for a reliable recycling system. Recyclehero, a Hamburg-based start-up, provides a free collection service for used clothing across Germany. They ensure these items find new life in local second-hand shops or charity organisations, instead of becoming a burden on the environment or being shipped off to the Global South. The service has gained significant traction, benefiting both individuals and businesses. Customers can easily turn their old clothes into team-building activities at their office or rely on the convenience of Recyclehero's collection system. DESARROLLO SOSTENIBLE - Impacto de los cambios de la moda La industria textil es a nivel mundial la 2da en términos de consumo y contaminación de cursos de agua. Dentro del proceso de esta industria se usan pesticidas en plantaciones de algodón, aplican químicos, incorporan fibras plásticas (que pueden demorar 200 años en descomponerse), adiciona packaging de corta vida de uso y el transporte es muchas veces trans-oceánico. A todo ello se adicionan las demandas cambiantes de la moda y el desecho de prendas a vertederos, que hacen que esta industria deje un impacto ambiental mayor. ¿Qué podemos hacer para mitigar los impactos desde el punto de vista de consumidores? 🌱 Elijamos comprar ropa de buena calidad, que tendrá una mayor vida útil. 🌱 Busquemos proveedores de producción local o del país propio, para minimizar la huella de carbono que deja el transporte. 🌱 Busquemos productores de telas orgánicas y tintes naturales, para evitar la contaminación de suelos y cursos de agua. 🌱 Reparemos la ropa siempre que sea posible, retomemos los conocimientos de costura de nuestras madres y abuelas. 🌱 Donemos la ropa que no usamos más. Porqué cuesta tanto contabilizar la huella ambiental en la indústria del fast fashion.... tiene que ver, sobre todo, con su compleja cadena de suministros bajo la que se esconden un complejo lío para contabilizar, por ejemplo, las emisiones de carbono. Sin embargo, en las ciudades existen pequeñas iniciativas muy circulares en el ámbito del textil que son capaces de explicar, mostrar y demostrar su compromiso con la sostenibilidad, en sus 3 patas y a las que se les da muy poco apoyo. Y además ponen alma a nuestras calles, mientras que las otras son una más entre todas las grandes y repetidas por todas partes. HMODA CIRCULAR is the circular economy project that aims to recover production waste to make new products while respecting the principles of eco-design. HModa donated to all its employees a pencil case made from leather leftovers of PELLETTERIA GAB S.R.L. and made by the social cooperative Quid Impresa Sociale, which promotes the labour inclusion of vulnerable people. The pen holder was accompanied by other circular economy products such as: - Perpetua, the pencil made through an innovative process using 80% recycled graphite powder. Particularly resistant, it writes 21.6 times more than traditional pencils and is made without the use of wood, paints and glues; - The paper tag made of biodegradable paper that can be planted with mixed flower seeds. We are enthusiastic about being actors in the change towards a circular economy; this gift is a symbol of our contribution and commitment to a sustainable and responsible future. HModa, with this present, aims to involve all its employees in the sustainability journey by sharing tangible messages in order to create awareness and inspire people in the transition towards sustainable consumption. Sometimes, it's the smallest changes that make the biggest impact. Last week I posted about the Sustainable Fashion Forum I attended in Austin. There is still so much I am learning but one message did stand out. Progress over perfection! Consider this: Just a 1% improvement in our approach to fashion can have a big impact. We're talking about sustainable fashion practices and the concept of circularity. What does that look like in real life? 💡 Choosing materials that are more durable and eco-friendly 💡 Supporting brands that prioritize fair labor practices and reduce waste www.toriannaapparel.com 💡 Repairing garments and not just throwing them away MendIt, Inc. 💡 Buying preloved clothing and accessories FASHIONPHILE 💡 Supporting recycling companies like Circ® It might seem like a drop in the ocean, but imagine if everyone committed to this 1% change. ➡ Millions of tons of textile waste would be diverted from landfills annually. ➡ There would also be a reduction in water and energy consumption across the industry. ➡ This would decrease the carbon footprint This 1% might not sound like much, but it's a starting point. I challenge everyone to start with one small change today. It could be as simple as repairing a button instead of discarding a shirt. Let's embrace the power of 1% and see the change we can create together. 🌍✨

Seguir sobre produciendo y sobre consumiendo es inviable, por mucho que se apele a la demanda del consumidor o la necesidad de crecimiento económico por parte de las marcas. Es necesario cambios de paradigma apoyados en las nuevas tecnologías. Debemos buscar soluciones para empujar la demanda del consumidor hacia modelos circulares, y conseguir un crecimiento económico, que es la base del bienestar social, basado en nuevos servicios que permitan parar con la sobre producción y el sobre consumo. Ese es el primer paso en la sostenibilidad. Luego ya hay que ver materiales, lugar de fabricación y venta, reciclaje, etc Si eres una marca y quieres probar de manera sencilla modelos de segunda mano, estamos trabajando en facilitar dicho proceso, y buscamos marcas que quieran ser pioneras en la segunda mano con un modelo escalable y rentable. Estamos a un DM de empezar a que tu marca sea + circular, y además, sin costarte nada porque todo lo asumimos nosotrxs!
