Very exciting, the potential for food surplus / waste reduction is huge, its nearly a "silver bullet"😀 Retailer scaled deployments already happening in fresh categories, starting with protein / meat, in Europe, Australia, etc. This week, Tesco UK announced they are starting their trials.

We actively support GS1 standards! ARMOR-IIMAK is ready to support this transition by providing thermal transfer printing solutions already adapted to the printing and legibility requirements of the 2D Barcode. And many of the “usual suspects” from our data synchronization days over 20 years ago!

Exactly what I suggested might happen as the future of the barcode 😊 https://youtu.be/VYpCHJ7VSMY?si=Ff1jfCVdAvCwxu_9

🌟 This is a major news that will impact the solutions for the traceability of products: barcodes will progressively evolve to QR Codes with GS1 standards. The other good news is that ARMOR-IIMAK thermal printing solutions are perfectly adapted to the printing requirements of the 2D barcodes.

The GS1 Digital Link represents a significant step towards the democratization of data by providing more comprehensive product information. At a time when market research firms protect their competitiveness by prohibiting customers from using AI to analyze data or combining it with other data sources, this development is particularly crucial. The more product information made available through the GS1 Digital Link, the less product reference data needs to be maintained by institutes that traditionally claim data sovereignty. If these product attributes are embedded in the code or linked, it’s excellent news for those who do not want to be dictated by market research firms on which software and platforms to use for analyzing already licensed data. This is a fantastic development for anyone striving for more flexibility and freedom in the use and analysis of data.

GS1 Digital Link makes so much sense on so many levels and is a logical and pragmatic evolution of the barcode we all got used to. It also opens up possibilities to attach unique serial numbers on valuable items without having an additional code on the product. This can enable more consumer engagement, counterfeit protection, market intelligence, track and trace and so much more. Happy to be part of the journey. Let me know if you want to know more about serialization through Digital Link and 2D or are thinking about it yourselves.

This is good News. We hope that GS1 digital link standard will be used as QR codes in the different industries. S5 Consulting is ready to help all companies running SAP as the ERP system to send the data to a MES/Print & Apply system or directly from SAP, generating your GS1 digital link QR code on consumer pack, cartoon or pallet. Also with digital product pass if needed. You also need help in the warehouse applications to read both GS1-128 and GS1 digital link QR codes. The shift from traditional barcodes to GS1 QR codes will take 10-XX years for different industries, so need to manage both in the different processes. Let the change begin. https://s5consulting.no/why-is-gs1-digital-link-important/
