Thanks to everyone who attended our webinar last week. 🧑💻 We've been running our educational webinars at Culture Shift since 2020. That was the year we saw 15 million to 26 million people getting involved in the Black Lives Matter protests the U.S. alone, making it one of the largest movements in U.S. history, according to a July 2020 New York Times analysis. ✊🏻✊🏼✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿 Since then, different forms of activism have integrated themselves into our work life and company corporate values. Company employees have been pushing to make a stand against forms of hate and discrimination by communicating their guiding beliefs to customers and clients. 🏢 ❤️ But do some companies simply make nice gestures to virtue signal? Are they simply following the 'trend' of presenting good values rather than truly striving for real change within their industries? 🤔 💭 October gives you the opportunity to explore these questions and many more in our next webinar: How can employee activism influence your people strategy? 👭 We have a suite of expertise to explore this topic next month, so secure your place or send to a colleague who it would be most relevant to. Creating the Future of Work | Public Speaker | Helping companies Attract, Engage and Retain the best people around 🚀
"Find us a black, lesbian single mother." One company I was doing some work for ACTUALLY asked me to do this. Needless to say, I walked away from the entire project. It's not only ridiculous beyond belief to ask me to do something like that — it's actually illegal. More than anything, it showed that this particular company had a serious problem. Instead of asking me to: - Sit down with their existing team - Improve their overall employee experience - Put proper DEI strategies in place They wanted to: - Tick all diversity boxes in one swoop, with one hire. That's not the sort of company I want to help, nor is it the sort of company that I think CAN be helped. Businesses who find themselves slipping into this kind of thinking need to take a big step back and ask serious questions of themselves. They'd also do well to realise that it will cost them a LOT more money down the line when they have to replace unhappy staff and fix the mistakes they're making now.
