My article for the Australasian Institute of Digital Health (AIDH) on a groundbreaking National Policy Roadmap for Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare which will be launched at our conference, AICare 2023 in Melbourne next week. The roadmap, which we contributed to, will give recommendations for how AI can safely and ethically revolutionise healthcare in Australia. As its lead author and director of the alliance that spearheaded the roadmap, Professor Enrico Coiera FAIDH, told me: "The AI opportunity is too big to ignore and too important not to get right. IC2 Conference 2024: Health AI For All is a one day convening designed to explore the challenges and opportunities associated with the deployment of AI (artificial intelligence) in the contexts of health and healthcare. The promises of Health Artificial Intelligence (Health AI) are many and include advances in predictive, prevention-oriented, and personalized care. Despite its potential, however, the inclusive design and deployment of AI-based health care is a challenge, and a critical question remains: How should Health AI be designed to ensure that the benefits of precision health and augmented clinical decision-making are accessible to all segments of society? Researchers, health practitioners, and community advocates will come together to consider the social, technical, clinical, ethical, and policy implications of deploying AI in historically underserved communities, both rural and urban, to help answer that question.
