Many HPN-dependent patients experience disrupted sleep, particularly difficulties with maintaining sleep. While these patients frequently report poor sleep, research objectively measuring their sleep patterns is scarce. A recent home-based observational study, “Sleep patterns of patients receiving home parenteral nutrition,” highlighted that the extent to which HPN contributes to poor sleep remains unclear. As healthcare providers, it's crucial to address known sleep disruption factors and explore potential sleep interventions. Improving sleep quality can significantly enhance patients' overall quality of life on HPN. #HealthcareProviders #SleepQuality #HPN #ClinicalResearch #PatientCare #DaretoBeRare #HealthcareSolutions #PatientSafety #BeAnythingButOrdinary #LifeWithoutLimits #ChallengeWhatsPossible #PatientEmpowerment #RareDisease [Image Description: Image of provider hooking up a patient to sleep monitoring equipment.]

It’s hard to believe, but yes, it’s September already. Fortunately, there’s still plenty of time to plan ahead for Malnutrition Awareness Week, September 16 - 20th! Learn more about upcoming webinars and other events. Notably, consider attending the Wednesday, September 18th webinar, “Malnutrition in the Trauma and Emergency Surgery Setting: An Under-Recognized Issue,” from 12pm - 1:30pm. This will be an invaluable opportunity to deepen your understanding. We’re days away from September! That means we’re approaching Malnutrition Awareness Week (MAW), September 16-20! Every year, ASPEN works to educate patients and healthcare professionals on malnutrition detection, intervention, and treatment! As MAW (and fall) gets closer, there are some ways to join in and start making an impact: 1. Take the lead in educating your colleagues, patients, and community on the dangers of malnutrition using ASPEN’s promotional and educational resources. 2. Write and submit an op-ed to your local newspaper. Educate readers on malnutrition and the importance of optimal nutrition. 3. Participate in MAW webinars. They’re FREE to ASPEN members and MAW ambassadors. 4. Support ASPEN’s advocacy efforts: Ask legislators to support nutrition-related bills. 5. Educate your governor on the important issue of malnutrition: Submit a request for a proclamation declaring September 16-20, 2024, as Malnutrition Awareness Week. Learn more here about how you can join the efforts this September: https://bit.ly/3Ojf6A3 [Image description: White and yellow font against a purple background: “Globally, 37% of critically ill children are malnourished;” “Educate.
