AGWA (AgriFood Growth & Water Abundance), Abu Dhabi's new food and water innovation cluster, partners with cultivated meat produce Believer Meats to develop lab-grown meat capabilities in the UAE. The initiative is driven by a growing awareness of environmental protection and changing dietary habits, and seeks to establish a reliable model for the introduction and expansion of lab-grown meat in the region and beyond. The partnership will also focus on establishing a regulatory pathway and halal certification standards for cultivated meat products in Abu Dhabi. Badr Al-Olama, Director General of the Abu Dhabi Investment Office, emphasized that this partnership exemplifies Abu Dhabi's objective to attract top innovators in food and water. BlueNalu and NEOM Sign MoU to Advance Cell-Cultured Seafood NEOM, a sustainable regional development initiative in northwest Saudi Arabia, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with cell-cultured seafood developer BlueNalu. The partnership seeks to advance the commercialization, marketing, and distribution of BlueNalu’s cell-cultured seafood offerings, aligning with their shared objectives of enhancing food security and promoting access to nutritious food options for global communities. The formation of this partnership comes on the heels of NEOM’s investment of $20 million into BlueNalu as part of a Series B funding round last month aimed at scaling the production of the company’s cultivated toro. US-based impact VC firm Clear Current Capital has recently announced partnerships between its portfolio companies and industry stakeholders to accelerate positive change in the food system. Some key partnerships: 👉 Nosh.bio GmbH partnered with Ginkgo Bioworks, Inc. to leverage strain optimization to produce a mycoprotein that delivers a savory and meaty taste in food products. 👉 Tupu, which produces gourmet mushrooms through a decentralized farming system, is partnering with renowned wholesalers and Michelin-starred chefs. 👉 New School Foods, which creates a whole-cut plant-based salmon that cooks and performs like salmon, has received grants from Canadian government agencies. 👉 BlueNalu, which develops cultivated seafood products, recently secured strategic alliances with the Mitsubishi Corporation in Japan, 풀무원 (Pulmuone) in South Korea, Thai Union Group PCL. in Thailand, and NEOM in Saudi Arabia. 👉 Umaro Foods, which produces bacon from seaweed protein, has received a grant from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to explore critical mineral extraction from ocean microalgae. 👉 Change Foods, which produces bioidentical cheese through precision fermentation, partnered with the KEZAD Group to design a dedicated commercial manufacturing plant for its animal-free dairy. Here’s the story of how Almarai started and how they’ve transformed the Arab dairy industry today, in under 60 seconds.
