Anti-abortion policymakers in the US House are pushing a federal funding bill that would do serious damage to sexual and reproductive health care. The bill includes poison pill riders that would attempt to defund Title X, Planned Parenthood and the Teen Pregnancy Prevention Program, and to restrict access to gender affirming care. The bill also includes the discriminatory Hyde Amendment that bans abortion coverage for people enrolled in Medicaid and other federal programs, and the harmful Weldon Amendment that allows for refusal of care. Every person should have access to contraception and abortion, and be able to make decisions about their health with dignity and autonomy. But if this bill advances further, it could cause significant and irreparable harm to reproductive freedom nationwide. 🚨 Our policy experts are monitoring, and we will share updates as they become available. #BeBoldEndHyde #AbortionJustice

June 7th was the 59th anniversary of Griswold v. Connecticut, a landmark case in reproductive rights history. In light of this, Dr. Zsanai Epps, our Senior Director of Reproductive Justice Initiatives, attended the White House Gender Policy Council's Convening on Access to Contraception. The discussions underscored several critical actions that align with our commitment to shaping reproductive justice policy. These include: ✅ Advocating for expanded ACA benefits for comprehensive reproductive health services. ✅ Combating misinformation and disinformation in reproductive health. ✅ Educating the public on the differences between over-the-counter birth control, emergency contraception, and abortion pills. ✅ Pushing for person-centered reproductive health research. ✅ Developing metrics to measure the effectiveness of programs and policies in addressing unmet community needs. This past week, the Senate blocked the Right to Contraception Act. As the 2024 elections approach—with 33 Senate seats in play—your vote becomes ever more vital. This November offers a critical opportunity to influence policies affecting reproductive freedoms and beyond. #MaternalHealth #ReporductiveRights #BlackMaternalHealth #HealthcareForAll

Today kicks off #BlackMaternalHealthWeek founded by the #BlackMamasMatter Alliance. The Black Mamas Matter Alliance (BMMA) is a Black women-led cross-sectoral alliance that centers Black mamas and birthing people to advocate, drive research, build power, and shift culture for Black maternal health, rights, and justice. We envision a world where Black mamas have the rights, respect, and resources to thrive before, during, and after pregnancy. The official theme for Black Maternal Health Week 2024 (#BMHW24) is “Our Bodies STILL Belong to Us: Reproductive Justice NOW!” Widespread restrictions on abortion care access coupled with rising cases of criminalization due to pregnancy loss continue to widen the gaps of adverse maternal and birth outcomes in the U.S. Many of the states with the most restrictive abortion bans have the worst maternal and child health outcomes and the least supportive social welfare and family support programs, particularly for Black women and birthing people. The time is NOW to demand for comprehensive public and private insurance coverage for maternal, sexual, and reproductive health care!! Info taken from Black Mamas Matter Alliance. #ReproductiveJusticeNOW #BlackMamasMatterAlliance #BMMA #BMMA2024 #BlackMaternalHealthMatters #ThisIsPublicHealth

🇵🇱 Polish president Andrzej Duda vetoed the bill allowing the morning-after pill to be bought over the counter. The bill was passed in February with the support of prime minister Donald Tusk, who seeks to relax existing legislation on reproductive health. ❕However, president Duda rejected the bill claiming that it violates article 122 of the Constitution on "the level of protection of children's health", as it allows the emergency contraceptive pill to be obtained without medical supervision or parental consent from the age of 15. 👉 Since taking office earlier this year, Tusk's government has promised to reverse restrictions carried out by the previous administration of the conservative Law and Justice party (PiS), which limited the purchase of emergency contraception and tightened access to abortion. The government is also pushing a proposal to allow abortion up to the 12th week of pregnancy. #Pologne #Poland #ReproductiveRights #DroitsReproductifs #MorningAfterPill #PiluleDuLendemain

#16daysofactivism Day 4 #reproductivefreedom All women deserve access to high quality reproductive healthcare, whether this be contraception, abortion, fertility treatment, maternity care and/or childcare (which can influence reproductive decision making). Abortion is not the only issue here but it is worth noting that, contrary to popular belief, abortion is not legalised in England, Scotland & Wales. It is partly decriminalised but is subject to the fulfilment of strict criteria as assessed by two medical practitioners. Obtaining an abortion outside these strict criteria can still result in prosecution and imprisonment. This is not acceptable. As noted by Maya Oppenheim in her Pocket Guide to The Patriarchy, “77% of anti-abortion leaders are men. 100% of them will never be pregnant” (from Pro-choice public education campaign). We stand up for women’s right to make autonomous decisions about their own bodies.

Panel on Opportunities for new data and data reform Dr. Monica R. McLemore @Marian Jarlenski Renee Bracey Sherman Julia Adler-Milstein Jarlenski: Medicaid does pay for #abortion in some states. #TMSIS can be used - with limitations - to study abortion abortion care. 1. Need to be aware of how algorithms to identify induced abortions might be used to prosecute women/providers. 2. As we analyze secondary data need to understand nuances of pregnancy choices. 3. Need to have research questions driven by community partners and informed by lived expertise. Powerful reminder: The Tenets of Reproductive Justice - "Autonomy to not be pregnant, to be pregnant and give birth, and to parent in a supportive and safe environment."

We are loving the good news coming out of California, where the governor has signed several bills into law protecting women's rights and healthcare. The highlights: - California officials can't cooperate with out-of-state entities seeking to punish women who receive abortions or abortion pills from California providers - Anyone who loses or ends a pregnancy is shielded from criminal and civil punishment. - Medical records related to abortion care are private, even from subpoena. - Health care plans must cover certain over-the-counter birth control options. - Nurse practitioners and certified nurse-midwives will have expanded training options for abortion care, as will OBGYN residents from outside of California who can't receive training in more restrictive states. These reasonable protections and common-sense solutions will save lives. #wearerisingok
