Just 24 hours until our May chapter meeting with Jim Vleming! Register now at sihrma.org/events. With local unemployment rates getting comfortable at historic lows, employers are experiencing challenges related to a strong labor market. Jim shares information about where publicly available labor market data can be found as well as tips about how to use (and avoid misusing) labor market information to shape your workforce strategy.
Join us Thursday by registering at sihrma.org/events! Jim Vleming is the regional economist for Clallam, Island, Jefferson, Kitsap, San Juan, Skagit, Snohomish, and Whatcom counties. He has worked for the Employment Security Department for the last four decades. He's served as regional labor economist for every county on the west side of WA state, so his knowledge and expertise spans much further than Skagit County alone. Jim will show us how to use freely available economic data to inform our workplace strategies. #LearningAndDevelopment #SHRM #HRCI #hrprofessionals #peopleoperations #businessstrategy

So Levelling Up is formally no more. Not sure that anyone will miss the departmental name but I hope it does not forget that some actual levelling up is not necessarily a bad idea. #Levellingup #departmentname #politics #housing #localgovernment #living #livingsector #weloveliving https://lnkd.in/evCjwHDf

We all are labourers…..! On this labour day, we want to respect not only labourers but the whole working class because if we think about it from a different perspective, every one of us is a labour. We all are working for our clients, and clients are serving their customers. This means that we all are a part of the labour community. either it is #PhysicalLabour or it is #MentalLabour. You just need to decide on which side you belong to. Now, let’s go one layer deeper. Physical labour is primarily a very important part of a #community’s #development and is most respectable. Because all farmer-brothers and sisters are the #backbone of our #country. So, we at Snail Integral LLP, use our mental labour #power to cater our #clients. As a result, we all will become a fluid system in which our country’s backbone can work freely and confidently. We would like to encourage you all to share your thoughts in the comment section. Happy International Labour Day #internationallabourday #labourday #farmer #farmingcommunity

**Wrexham Local Development Plan Update** The Wrexham Local Development Plan was adopted by Wrexham County Borough Council on 20 December 2023 and covers the period 2013 to 2028. It forms part of the statutory development plan alongside Future Wales: The National Plan 2040. The remaining part of the statutory development plan will be the Strategic Development Plan (SDP) for North Wales, once prepared and adopted. Thanks to David Collett for the time he afforded me today on my visit to one of his depots in Halifax. Which happens to be my home town !! It was great for me to hear of the skill and expertise that is involved moving abnormal loads around the country. Also the issues and challenges which were really brought to life. This specialised sector is vital to UK PLC. We collectively convened a working group early last year after operators reported inconsistencies and challenges with abnormal loads enforcement. The group consists of the Heavy Transport Association, National Highways, Backhouse Jones Solicitors, National Caravan Council, Park Dean Resorts, Construction & Plant Association, National Farmers Union, Hiab, Ainscough Crane Hire, along with ourselves and other key operators within the industry. Hauliers have told us that inconsistency of enforcement increases bureaucracy and costs, and the knock-on effect can be felt in the wider economy, with projects getting delayed and potentially postponed. As a result, we have established strong relationships with the police, including senior officers from the National Police Chiefs Council (NPCC), along with a number of forces. We are all clear that safety is paramount on our roads, and our collective aim is to ensure that firms have the clarity and certainty they need to be able to move their customers’ goods efficiently and without additional bureaucracy. We recognise that the forces have a difficult job to do, and we know that abnormal loads are a complex field requiring specialist knowledge, experience, and consideration. Inconsistency can make it difficult for hauliers and their customers to find real-time, realistic solutions. The NPCC is working with the industry on a project to update the national guidance to reinforce their efforts to increase knowledge of the rules and improve cross-force consistency. We will continue to work together to share ideas, understand concerns, and explore opportunities to benefit policing and operators. Working together with other stakeholders has given this campaign different perspectives, inputs, and impetus than if any of us had tried to tackle this alone. It shows the value of collaboration and engagement as we strive to make sure operators have the confidence and clarity they need. In the meantime, we’re conducting an economic impact assessment so that we can articulate the cumulative effect these issues are having on our industry and beyond. We will continue to update on our progress. Welcome to the working group David and team. Comments always welcome

A recent YouGov poll shows that most agree we need to build more houses ✅ But 67% of people surveyed oppose building on the Green Belt ❌ It's clear that millions of people value the green space around their towns and cities. The Green Belt is home to farming, wildlife, tranquility and much-needed access to open space. Most of the government's housebuilding target could be met by building on brownfield land, and so we welcome strong steps to make that happen. https://lnkd.in/e5F-VEWw
