Our journey to get our short-term rental up and running was quite the adventure! Thanks for Visiting, we are so grateful you gave us this platform to share our story and inspire other hosts to fight for their right to rent responsibly. In the episode, we reflect on 7+ months of advocacy efforts and break down the strategies we used to propose a win-win scenario for all stakeholders involved. In the market for an STR? Learn from our experience... 🏠 Vet your realtors for strong knowledge of the local STR regulatory environment. They are getting paid to be your boots-on-the-ground subject matter expert, hold them accountable to this. 📞 Don't take property listing details at face value. Do your own due diligence by calling your government officials (county, city, township), being transparent with your intentions, and starting an open dialogue early about what's possible. 👩💻 Remember, creative problem solving starts with understanding the pain points of your community. Listen to understand all parties involved, and use what you learn to propose data-driven solutions that meet your neighbors, local planning commission, and board members where they're at (check out Minut's noise and occupancy tech, a great option to combat noise complaints). 😅 Be confident in your ability to make a difference. When we embarked on this emotionally-charged roller coaster, we had no prior experience lobbying for policy change.
