With climate change becoming impossible to ignore, we need to look at actions that can significantly decrease our carbon footprint, such as driving less 🚗, reducing heating usage ❄️, switching to LED light bulbs 💡, powering off electronics instead of leaving them on standby ⚡️, and using reusable products 🌱. However, there are also less apparent steps we can take, like adjusting our diet to exclude intensively farmed meat 🥩, avoiding imported food delivered by air ✈️, and steering clear of banks or institutions that invest in fossil fuels 💸. Energy saving made easy - just in time for the summer holiday season, I invite you on a climate journey 🌍.   The app from eprimo GmbH makes it possible to minimise your carbon footprint in everyday life. For example, did you know that by eliminating 10 kg of unnecessary items in your car, you can save 120 kg of CO2 per year?   The "Klimareise" app, developed by E.ON Group Innovation and E.ON Digital Technology, drives users from knowledge to action - #sustainability meets #gamification   ✅ Users can earn points by completing the climate challenges. These points can then be used to support social and sustainable climate change projects. ✅ As users continue their journey and progress through the levels, they receive more golden points from the app. ✅ Users can redeem these points for vouchers and discounts on sustainable products or services.   Why am I writing this? Because Verbraucherzentrale NRW recently tested #Klimareise. The consumer advice centres (Verbraucherzentralen) in Germany inform, advise and support consumers in asserting their interests against providers. Every year, they protect thousands from being ripped off and campaign for transparent and fair rules in hearings and legislative procedures.   Their verdict makes me a bit proud: 💚 "With Klimareise (Climate Journey), the energy provider eprimo offers a technically convincing app that masters all the disciplines of playful motivation for more climate protection. 💚 The app effortlessly achieves the primary goals of raising awareness of one's own carbon footprint and motivating consumers to do more. 💚 The customer acquisition and retention measures expected from a commercial provider, such as the optional sending of push messages and email offers, are limited. Tackling climate change relies on cultural, behavioural and systemic change, but in what order? From the sustainability professionals we’ve worked with, the biggest challenge is culture.  People are resistant. Everyone we work with has a passionate small group of company advocates that make things happen. These are most often staff who have made personal changes for climate and nature.  We desperately need more of these people. However, the learning curve is so steep, it proves challenging for many. We surveyed hundreds and interviewed dozens of people to get to the bottom of why personal action is so hard.  We discovered that people need; information, encouragement and a sense of others doing the same. In response to this we created the NetPostiveLifeApp: This provides people with an inherited baseline impact on nature and climate and then allows them to plot their course to Net Zero and beyond, with insight on costs and cost savings.  People then select actions over the next 7 years, so they can hit their target of being 40% of the current carbon emissions and 50% of the impact on nature by 2030. Just like a company, people can plan their journey. They can see what it will cost them as well as the return on investment, bringing together in one place their Net Zero plan. This tool is already being used to great benefit to enable staff to readily support company sustainability strategies.  We have made it available beyond our client base to a wider audience so that everyone can benefit.
