Kindness at Work Boosts Team Well-Being and Productivity Never underestimate the power of random acts of kindness in your team. These seemingly small gestures profoundly impact organizational culture and individual well-being. * When someone experiences kindness, they often pay it forward, creating a ripple effect. Acts of kindness extend beyond the initial recipient, promoting a culture of generosity. * Research shows that giving compliments and performing kind acts boost happiness levels. A simple "thank you" or a supportive note can brighten someone's day. * Incorporating kindness into our daily interactions creates a positive atmosphere. It improves employee morale and overall success. This is "Random Acts of Kindness" week and corresponds perfectly with Valentine's Day on Wednesday 14th February. Some ideas for Random Acts of Kindness at Work are: ·       Tell your team member what you appreciate about him/her ·       Tell a joke to lighten the mood during a difficult task ·       Bring extra snacks to share with coworkers ·       Write a card to a coworker thanking them for their help on something ·       Bring a coworker a cup of coffee ·       Mentor someone ·       Help others when they need help ·       Be generous with your time and attention. The person I set daily intentions with is presently playing with puppets, taking selfies with Kermit and lounging under palm trees while giraffes roam nearby.   He’s in Disney World, on vacation with his daughter.   They’re mostly having a great time. However, with all the activity it’s been hard for him—understandably—to keep routines and our regular morning check-ins have been temporarily interrupted.   Daily intention-setting means that we speak briefly most mornings and say out loud what we intend to focus on our accomplish that day. Sometimes it’s a specific action, sometimes it’s a state of mind. Having an accountability partner supports our long-term goals and frames our day. This tangible check-in means we commit to carrying out the activity or mindful practice we’ve named.   My friend’s absence this week has made me realize it’s not just stating the intention that has value. It’s the presence of the person on the other end, actively listening, and reciprocating.    This reciprocity creates a healthy tension between naming, and doing. It creates flow and continuity. Good habits, both personal and professional, are essentially built on continuity. Repetition is the magic sauce.   We rarely ask the other, “Hey, did you actually do the thing you said you were going to do?” It goes without saying that this is the goal. We want that for each other, but we are less concerned with perfection.   The point really is to “put it in the vortex,” as one author calls it. It’s the practice that matters because, if I miss the mark today, I’ll get another chance to do it again tomorrow. I can course-correct.   Our morning calls typically range from 5 to 15 minutes and they set my mind on a particular track: I’m less focused on what I won’t do and more focused on what I will. It keeps me feeling connected to my purpose, and moving in the direction of my values.   In Disney World the focus has been on play. We need that too. Fun also helps us thrive. But I’ll be glad when my accountability partner returns from his excursion and our daily pre-work calls resume, sans Kermit. Or, perhaps the wise frog will make a guest appearance and have something profound to say about productivity. I wouldn’t mind picking his brain. #productivity #goals #goalsetting #accountability #collaboration

Last night during my adventures of 'The Great Bedtime Negotiation' with my toddler. It came to me that understanding needs and motivations is as vital in parenting as it is in business. Motivation and discipline, are distinctly different and equally essential in both realms. Here are three things that came to mind: 1. Understanding What Really Drives Actions Both in dealing with kids and in business, it's important to figure out why people do what they do. When my toddler didn’t want to go to bed, she wasn't just being difficult. She just wanted to spend more time reading stories. In business, when a customer seems hesitant or uninterested, it's often not about the product itself. They might have concerns or needs that haven't been addressed yet. Uncovering these underlying reasons, often called “pain points” can turn challenging situations into opportunities for deeper engagement and understanding. 2. Discipline is More Than Rules Discipline isn't just about setting rules, it's about creating a regular, reliable way of doing things that’s good for everyone. With my toddler, a regular bedtime isn’t about being strict, but about helping them stay healthy. In business, following certain procedures ensures that everything runs smoothly. It’s important to set the expectations on rules and be clear on why they are in place. If they understand and agree with the reasons, they're more likely to follow them without feeling forced. 3. Combining Understanding with Rules In my opinion, the best results come when people know why they are doing something and have clear guidelines on how to do it. Like with my toddler, once she knew why bedtime was important, she was more willing to go to bed on time. When customers know why certain products or services are solve their paint points, they’re much more invested. It's all about making sure our offerings align with their goals, not just pushing a sale. Getting to a “no” is one of the best things you can do in sales. Learning the difference between motivation and discipline has really helped me, both with my family and at work. I've found that having rules is important, but really understanding why people do things is what makes a big difference. Today we're celebrating Amy's ONE YEAR WORKAVERSARY! Let's get to know her a little better. We asked Ron our Field Manager some questions about Amy, let's see how he did! Q: If Amy had a different name, what would she choose? Ron: Oh boy, I have no idea. Gabrielle? Amy: I can't think of myself anything other than Amy. I think my parents did a good job picking my name. ** I DO have some backup names in case I need to change my identity, but obviously I can't tell you those. Q: How many times did Amy take her driving test before passing? Ron: 6 times. Amy: I passed my first try! I got a got one point off for taking my left turn too fast, but still passed. Q: If Amy had a pet parrot, what would she teach it to say? Ron: Oh, a lot of things. I think "Let's go for a walk, Nemesis" *Nemesis is Amy's Dog Amy: "Ahoy Matey!" "I'm not a crook!" Q: Which is the best Ben & Jerry's ice cream flavor? Ron: Cherry Garcia. Amy: For eating, I'd say Phish Food or Americone Dream. If I was picking one to go in a time capsule, I'd say Cherry Garcia. Q: What is something Amy looks forward to every day? Ron: What new things she's going to learn, and write in her book. Amy: Walking my dog. Q: Early Bird or Late Owl? Ron: Oh, this is easy, she's not an early bird. Amy: Early Bird. Q: What's a pet peve of Amy's Ron: Well, I get to cheat on this one since we talked about it yesterday: she hates when there are stickers on things that are hard to remove. And I would agree. Amy: Yep. Drives me crazy. I have a Hello Kitty rice maker, and the manufacturer's sticker is right on top, and was clearly not make to come off. Why?? Q: Amy, what's something we don't know about you? Amy: I trained hardcore in ballet, modern, jazz and tap through high school. Let's foster empathy and compassion for our Type Five friends and colleagues! 💙 #TypeFives #EmpathyMatters #SupportiveConnections #RespectingBoundaries #CompassionateUnderstanding Things that generally bother Type Fives: ~People assuming I don’t want relationship or don’t “do” relationships ~People not taking my ideas and knowledge seriously.  Even if you don’t want the depth, I have good information to offer. ~Being asked to make decisions quickly.   ~Being pushed to share more than I am comfortable with or pushed to share more emotionally than I am ready to. ~Being overwhelmed by another person’s emotions or demands or being “nagged” when I am not sharing/doing enough ~Not being invited because people assume I wouldn’t enjoy the event.  I can make my own decisions.

I was reminded over the weekend that it was "Gotcha Day" for our gorgeous pup Albie. He joined our family 3 years ago and has definitely brightened every day since then. When he first joined us though, we weren't sure about him. He was very quiet, disinterested in everything, lethargic and hid himself away. Our first impression was that we should have chosen his more active and sociable brother. We were worried that he wasn't well, wasn't happy and wouldn't settle with us. We had a number of conversations with the breeder who offered to swap him for us. But, we persevered, slowed ourselves down, took things at his pace and let him tell us how he needed us to be. Within a few days, he was an affectionate, waggy-tailed, curious puppy and he's been that ever since (although less of a puppy now!) It would have been so easy to write him off because he wasn't conforming to our image of a puppy, our perception of how he should behave, but we didn't. We adapted our behaviour to accommodate his needs whilst letting him know he was loved. We do this in business all the time. We allow our initial perceptions to cloud our actions and we can accept people or we can write them off pretty quickly. My advice is to just stop, take a moment, put yourself in their shoes and work out what they need from you to help them settle. Top tip: This usually involves talking to them!! Then over time, you work out how to work together in a way which works for both of you. Treat people as THEY want to be treated, it's the golden rule. #TeamDynamics #AuthenticLeadership #Onboarding
