We are proud to be part of a network of 47 community foundations across the UK. This new report, from UK Community Foundations, outlines how: 💪 The network has together distributed over £170.6 million – 40,804 grants – to charities and voluntary organisations in the financial year 2022-2023. 💪 Tackling the root causes of social inequity has been a key focus of local funding, collaborating with donors and communities alike to support grassroots resilience. 💪 Over £811 million is being managed by the UKCF network in community-focused endowments, being invested by communities for communities. Last year, HAB Law supported over 20 different support organisations and charities thanks to the help of our community giving back pledge. This pledge, also known as our 1-1-1 method, ensures that we give back to the organisations who work with us, helping them to continue to provide the amazing services they offer year-round. This week we’re celebrating #SmallCharityWeek! Did you know that 96% of all charities in the UK are small charities? RESTART Lives is proud to be one of those 🎉 We may be small, but we make a huge impact! With a lean and agile team we: -Take on over 30 new guests for in depth case work every quarter - Manage an overall caseload of over 60 guests per quarter - Serve over 14000 hot meals a year - Run weekly football skills sessions - Offer multiple one to one therapy slots per week - Put funding behind team training and staff development By being a small charity, it means we can adjust our ways of working as needed, when needed, so we’re always giving our guests the support they require. From a friendly chat over dinner at our drop in, to finding employment or education opportunities, to supporting guests with their move into permanent accommodation, our team supports our guests in a multitude of ways. We know that being agile as a small charity is a major help in supporting our most vulnerable communities, and quite frankly we wouldn’t want it any other way. This small charity week, we’re celebrating some of our recent successes, like our voter registration drive ahead of the upcoming election. Even without a permanent address, everyone has the right to have their say on the decisions that affect all of us. We’re immensely proud that our registration drive saw guests sign up both to vote for London mayor and in the coming General Election!  We also released our letter to the new government with our key asks to address homelessness. The expertise and insights of small charities like ours need to be utilised to help guide future change. You can read our open letter on our website or in our previous post. NPC (New Philanthropy Capital) has released the Partners for Change report, which was funded by Charities Aid Foundation (CAF). It's an insightful strategy proposal for the next government to consider as it's packed out with information about what the government could do to move philanthropy in the UK forward. There are: 🎯 Eight recommendations for putting the partnership between government and charities on a strong footing 🎯 Nine recommendations in priority policy areas where civil society and government can work together to make change 🎯 Nine recommendations about how charities and funders can work together. Includes topics about in-house giving strategies, how impact and data can be used, ways the inequalities that society is addressing could be addressed, how giving can be used to respond to the climate crisis, how giving can guide the government's response to criminal justice, and how children and young people should have a seat at the table.
