The 2023 Food and Agriculture Benchmark is out and the World Benchmarking Alliance is offering a comprehensive look into the sustainability performance of the 350 most influential companies in the sector. From climate targets to farmers’ living income gaps, the findings underscore the pressing need for more companies to recognize their responsibility in creating a sustainable future. 🔍 Key takeaways: ➡️ 122 of the top companies score 10/100 or lower on sustainable food systems. ➡️ Only 4% of companies identify living income benchmarks for farmers. ➡️ A mere 18% of consumer-facing companies are prioritizing health in their offerings. ➡️ Positive traction in climate targets and regenerative agriculture, but there's still a long road ahead. #sustainability #foodandagriculture #corporateresponsibility #benchmark2023 #foodsystems #health #climate #farmers

What is the biggest enabler of regenerative agriculture? 🚜 "Restructuring the financial models that contribute to farming globally", says Adele Jones, Executive Director at Sustainable Food Trust (SFT). The current economic signals tell farmers that they need to produce as much as they can for the lowest possible cost, irrespective of the impacts on public health or the environment. 👎 The Sustainable Food Trust suggests that to help enable the shift to regenerative farming methods and to make a business case for this transition, we could start by assigning, where appropriate, an economic value to the many positive outputs generated by truly regenerative farming. 🐝 But this transition will require a wide support system, including not only farmers but government, food companies, retailers, banks, investors and the insurance industry. 🤝 SFT’s Executive Director, Adele Jones, met with Commonland at the Regenerative Agriculture and Food Systems Summit organised by Kisaco Research: Food, Drink & Wellness to discuss this in more detail. 👉 To find out more about the SFT’s work, visit sustainablefoodtrust.org #RegenerativeAgriculture #RAFSS #FoodProduction #SustainableTransition
