At the Metcash Food Expo 2024 I presented to over 900 independent supermarket owners, managers, and industry professionals about how to navigate the big demographic shifts impacting food retailing. As an industry they will benefit from population growth but must adjust to more customers carefully watching every dollar they are spending. On top of this, shifting generational worldviews create challenges in managing an increasingly diverse staff. The outlook for the sector is very bright though. The general sense of optimism in the industry was very much reflected in an outrageously cool tech setup.
