Harbinger of things to come? Last week’s #JPM2024 and #BiotechShowcase in San Francisco were an excellent opportunity to meet with global colleagues, collaborators and investors, and to gauge sentiment across the #biopharma industry. Blockbuster deals announced prior to and during the week, including Abbvie/Cerevel ($8.7B, neuroscience), J&J/Ambryx ($2B, oncology) and Isomorphic Labs-Alphabet separately with both Lilly and Novartis(~$3B total, AI), together with rising stock markets and stabilizing interest rates, set the scene for a feeling of cautious optimism for the #biotech industry in 2024. And the weather agreed, with San Francisco bathed in uncommon blue skies for the majority of the week… Our CEO Christian Toouli presented FivepHusion at the Biotech Showcase and participated in positive meetings around Union Square with current and prospective partners and #investors from across the globe. With oncology nominated by analysts as a priority indication for both M&A and #investment alike, FivepHusion is intent on continuing to build momentum in 2024.

The Biotech industry is buoyant with Innovation and great investment stories! Engrail Therapeutics: $157M Series B to fund neuropyschiatric treatments for anxiety, depression and PTSD. Healx: Raised $47 million in a Series C financing round. The U.S. FDA has cleared their IND application to advance HLX-1502 in Phase 2 clinical trial in Neurofibromatosis Type 1 (NF1). Exscientia: Announced last week that they entered into a definitive agreement with Recursion (Nasdaq: RXRX). This proposed combination of Exscientia’s Generative AI drug design and Recursion’s high throughput target biology will help them deliver better treatments to patients faster and at a lower cost. Recap of Sachs ELSF Forum ⬇ TBD Pharmatech CEO, Andrus Tasa, participated in the #Sachs_ELSF Forum held on February 28-29 in Zurich, Switzerland. The #Sachs_ELSF Forum, part of the #SachsSpringLifeSciencesWeek, delved into the latest trends and innovations in the biotechnology industry. Attendees had the opportunity to engage with thought leaders in the biotech field, with over 400 participants including investors, top executives from pharmaceutical and biotech companies. The program covered diverse topics ranging from obesity and cancer treatment to the needs and opportunities in rare and orphan diseases' therapies. According to Andrus Tasa, the Sachs forum fostered inspiring discussions with both investors and biotech leaders. Several ideas emerged from these dialogues that could potentially lead to future collaborations. Of particular interest was gaining insights into the specifics of innovative compounds needed for clinical trials of drug candidates developed by biotech companies. More #Biotech news today in the neuropsychiatry space: a new company, Neurosterix, emerging with an impressive portfolio of allosteric modulators for certain neurological conditions. Their leading asset is reported to be a selective muscarinic M4 PAM (Positive Allosteric Modulator), in the preclinical stage, as a potential treatment for Schizophrenia. Strategic Landscape Insights: The wave of these relatively newer MOAs to treat Schizophrenia may differentiate, but others (Cerevel Therapeutics; Karuna Therapeutics/ now Bristol Myers Squibb) also have their treatment candidates in play. For certain 'underserved' neuro-conditions, unmet needs exist.
