"Diving into the future: The Enigmatic Future of AI cars" Well, so first of all, sketch the visual in your mind- Gliding down the road, rusing through the traffic, your hands and the head, both off the steering wheel, your car taking you to your school/office while you trying your best to protect your work from being labelled as 'pending'. No. It's nothing like ' A vivid, distant and farther than the future dream'. It's present, or to be more precise, a very near-future. Self-driving AI car, also known as driverless car, autonomous car, robotaxi, robotic car, robocar, robocop(No) is a car capable to operate on it's own, with little to no human involvement. It can do pretty much-everything which a duo of a driver and his car does. It can perceive the environment and control itself, can navigate rather intelligently from starting point to destination point. Now, a very genuine question arises- " No matter how intelligent it is, can it really replace the human intelligence and instinct ?" In a planet like Earth, where close to 1.2 Million people die annually due to road accidents, it ain't really that much safe to say that earth houses the best drivers in the universe(technically it does, but guess you caught the essence). Until a few decades ago, people used to think that our thoughts, our intelligence, our emotions and everything, are subjected to 'free will'. But soon it was found that there is nothing like that, all of these come out as a result of biochemical algorithms. If the basis of humanity, the human intelligence, is just millions of biochemical operations followed-up forming an algorithm, it is not a big deal in copying and feeding the algorithm to the hungry AI. In fact, AI cars can actually prove out to be more trustworthy than human drivers. Look at this: two human-operated cars are streaming on the same path in opposite direction. The road is wide enough for the two of them to line up horizontally. In basic sense, the two drivers are two different entities, both of their minds work in different ways, they can't easily build a connection between them and there's a huge probability that they will collide. Now, take AI cars. If the same case happens to them, then they are two different cars but one single entity, AI. They have a long-built connection between them and it's highly unlikely they would collide. You see, how wonderful it is. Though, these cars will have their own unique problems like faulty algorithms . But still, they will drop the no. road accidents by more than 30%. But such astonishing optimism paves the way to ethical questions, like, who will be considered responsible in case of unavoidable accidents ? What if somehow, the car's software will trip into facing errors due to natural conditions like weather ? Answers to such questions are yet to be delivered, but will be very soon. All in all, I would say, gone are the days on fantasizing on cars like Batmobile or Tarzan, we will soon be riding on our own ones.
