Its time to end the outdated binary view of Open vs Supported Employment and just focus on providing work choices and pathways for anyone with a disability who wants to work. The more the better. Thanks to a generous multi-year grant from the Bowness Family Foundation , Wallara has been running an innovative pilot program leveraging our corporate partners to enable our employees to take that next step without risk. Here is a summary of the outcomes and impact to date. Big shout out to Carolyn Bloch who led the program for us with expert oversight from Simon O'Brien and incredible support from Leonie Boxtel GAICD. This is what inclusion at work looks like. The challenge now is to see if we can make this work financially sustainable without Foundation support because this work should be happening nationwide and organisations like us are perfectly suited to doing it. #supportedemployment #futureofwork #disabilityrights #inclusion

On June 19th, 1865 Major General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas and issued General Order No. 3, which proclaimed the freedom of all enslaved people in Texas. This was more than two months after the end of the Civil War and over two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. #Juneteenth, is an important holiday for all Americans commemorating the end of slavery for a free and just society. By embracing diversity and fostering inclusion for all, we can create a better future for generations to come. #StrongerTogether #FreedomDay #Inclusion #Diversity #InclusiveFinance #InclusiveCapitalism

Pivot Point: Stephen Miller and AFL are at it again. They have been hunting out DEI practices at over 20 major corporations and now turn their focus to the NFL and the Rooney Rule. My position is unequivocal: AFL's stance seeks to narrow rather than broaden talent pools by perpetuating the exclusion of underrepresented groups. Their assertion that adding people of color to candidate pools inherently implies inferior qualifications is not only false but also discriminatory. This flawed logic disregards the reality of industries like professional sports, where players of color dominate the field. Denying qualified individuals from underrepresented groups the opportunity to compete based on their race is not only unjust but also detrimental to fostering diversity and inclusion in our workplaces. It's imperative to challenge such misguided perspectives and advocate for equitable opportunities for all.

Also,really good chips
Recently spent a really enjoyable afternoon at @Lewesfc watching the women's team take on Birmingham City (0-0 F/T). This club set the template way back in 2017 for others to follow; equal pay, equal investment in both the women's and the men's teams. Times are now changing but it takes agents of change like Charlie Dobres & Karen Dobres at Lewes to start that ball rolling at a time when it was hard to have that conversation. Great to spend time with both of them. Next Women's team home game Oct 1st v. Blackburn Rovers 12pm kick off. Bring the kids and the dog 🐕 (they are allowed in the ground).

DYK? October is Community Inclusion Month! This year the theme is the importance of including people living with developmental disabilities into all aspects of society, including the opportunity to live independently, to have equal access to health, employment, cultural activities, recreation, and sports. What does inclusion look like in your community? https://loom.ly/Bs9YOW4

Champion of equity & access, collaborator, strategic thinker | A leader in digital inclusion efforts in Colorado
I enjoyed participating in this summit yesterday. It made me even more excited to be hiring up to 18 digital navigators to work throughout Colorado and in the Denver metro area. There was a lot of conversation about the importance of skills based hiring practices, which how the state of Colorado and Colorado Department of Labor and Employment approaches hiring. We also do not require that degrees be translated or evaluated by the applicant, which can be a major barrier. The four navigators who will work in the Denver area will serve immigrants and refugees at community based locations frequented by these Coloradans. We want to hire community members with lived experience of the people they will help. That's WAY more important than being a 'techie.' Proficiency in using everyday technology is important for anyone who wants to be a digital navigator. However, specific digital skills that are commonly needed by digital navigators can be taught. This isn't the case with 'people skills'/ 'soft skills'. Please spread the word about these decently paying positions, $26.94-37.42. They are temporary, AND it will be such great work experience. Millions of dollars for 2024-2029 are coming to Colorado to support the implementation of the Colorado Digital Access Plan. This is the RIGHT time to join this growing field because there will likely be many organizations hiring digital navigators right around the time these temporary positions are scheduled to end. The deadline to submit applications is Feb 12, 2024. Email questions to [email protected]. https://lnkd.in/gxbuXKWi
We had a packed room at our first-ever Immigrant Inclusion Summit in Denver. Inspiring, solutions-oriented conversation about powering Colorado’s workforce and championing newcomers’ potential. We are grateful for our speakers Alison Griffin of Whiteboard Advisors, Tiffany Jaramillo from Emily Griffith Technical College, Sachith Siriwardane from Guild, and Anthony Cherwinski, MA from Colorado Department of Labor and Employment. Thanks to our partnership with the Colorado Office of New Americans, we're able to offer EnGen licenses free of charge to employers, organizations, and learners throughout the state. About four years ago, amid the George Floyd tragedy, a pivotal discussion ensued, sparking a crucial dialogue. This led to a candid exchange between myself and our senior officers regarding the systemic racism prevalent in our country. Following this, our inaugural Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Council was established, and I had the privilege of being one of its founding members. Since then, we have remained committed to fostering conversations on diversity, equity, and inclusion in our workplace. While conversations about diversity, equity, and inclusion may pose discomfort, it's crucial to maintain an open-minded approach to understanding the unique struggles of others. Furthermore, these discussions should extend beyond formal settings and persist within our families, friendships, and communities to ensure widespread awareness and ongoing dialogue. #diversityequityinclusion #belonging #equalityforall #equitynow #socialjusticeeducation #represesentationmatters #culturaldiversity #diversevoices
