National Margarita Day is a day dedicated to celebrating the beloved margarita, a cocktail that has won the hearts of many around the world. The Origin is a Mystery The exact origin of the Margarita is shrouded in mystery, with several bartenders across Mexico and the United States claiming to have invented it in the 1930s and 1940s. One popular story credits Carlos "Danny" Herrera at his restaurant Rancho La Gloria, halfway between Tijuana and Rosarito, Mexico, for creating the drink for dancer Marjorie King in 1938. The Classic Recipe The classic Margarita recipe is a simple yet perfect blend of tequila, lime juice, and Cointreau or triple sec, often served with salt on the rim of the glass. Over the years, this traditional recipe has been the foundation for countless variations, incorporating a wide range of flavors and ingredients. A Record-Breaking Cocktail: The world's largest Margarita was created in 2011 at the Margaritaville Casino in Las Vegas. This gigantic cocktail was made in a 17-foot-tall tank and contained over 8,500 gallons of liquid, earning it a place in the Guinness World Records. Margarita Means Daisy in Spanish The word "Margarita" is Spanish for "daisy." The Margarita cocktail is believed to be a variation on the Daisy, a cocktail that became popular in the early 20th century, which was traditionally made with brandy, citrus juice, and a sweetener. The Margarita essentially substitutes tequila for brandy, offering a Mexican twist to an old favorite. #NationalMargaritaDay
