Rediscovering Sara Benninga’s Narrative Illusions *** Once upon a time, it feels like another lifetime, I delved into the intricate world of Sara Benninga's artistic practice. In my written words, I attempted to unravel her genius in deconstructing and reconstructing canvas elements to craft illusions of stories, narratives void of concrete evidence. Today, the weight of the news makes it incredibly hard to immerse oneself in muses and artistic ideas. The world seems to pulse with realities that overshadow the realm of imagination. Yet, amidst this turbulence, I find solace in the belief that art holds an indispensable role, especially during times of conflict and uncertainty. Art serves not only to inspire but also to aid in processing the chaos that engulfs us. Much like Benninga's work, it prompts us to question the narratives we encounter, juxtaposing fragments of images and news to create stories that defy logic. Despite the tumultuous times, I believe in the transformative power of art. It offers us a lens through which we can make sense of the incomprehensible, finding moments of clarity in the midst of chaos. Robert Bridges' poem 'Nightingales' stands as a remarkable example of poetic license, showcasing his audacious attempt to create a unique piece that can rival even the works of John Keats. In my view, 'Nightingales' is one of Bridges' finest works. The poem's emotional depth, particularly the birds' yearning in the second and third stanzas, echoes Arnold's 'Philomela,' thereby presenting a contrasting longing to that of Keats. However, the style of the poem is undeniably influenced by Keats' ode. The echoes range from direct references like 'Where are those starry woods?' ('Where are the songs of spring?') to shared emotional resonance ('Whose pining visions dim, forbidden hopes profound') and even to similar diction. From these sweet-springing meads and bursting boughs of May. Bridge's unreflective nature poems are like those of Keats in many ways. The first lines of "The Garden in September" announce their parentage in the "Ode to Autumn": Now thin mists temper the slow-ripening beams Of the September sun. The same heavy richness, the same ripeness which is almost over-ripeness, "swells and plumps" the rhythms of the two poems, a richness obtained by a skilful fusion of sense and sound. https://lnkd.in/epK5svrq

To be honest; it is not an easy process you go through before and after recording such a well-known work. It's as if you have the opportunity to paint Rembrandt's Night Watch again alongside many greats who have gone before you. The biggest question that arises is; what is there to add, from what idea and what urgency? And then the moment comes when the whole world can say something about it. I have learned to attach less value to reviews, but when the reviews often capture the core of what we want to convey and stand for, I think then you can say that your work has some added value.
