The reasons for this are [1] Outdated curriculum: Except in the top tier (IITs, some of the IIITs, some of the NITs and some of the top private colleges) institutions, most of the other institutes have an outdated curriculum. [2] Poor Research Experience: Many of the faculties in tier-3 institutes have just PhD degrees without any quality research experience. [3] Outdated Faculty: Except for a few, most of the faculty once they finish PhD and join a faculty, think that it's over, no need to learn any more. [4] No proper faculty performance evaluation: Most of the institutes follow an age-old methodology for faculty performance evaluation with a focus on the quantity of publications etc. The Indian government is spending a decent amount of money, but it's disappointing to see these statistics. It is possible to change this situation by updating the curriculum regularly, asking the faculty to regularly update them, proper faculty performance evaluation etc. #india #faculty #phds #teaching #research #educationsystem #iits #nits #iiits

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐮𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐄𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐌𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐥 𝐡𝐚𝐬 𝐟𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐝. We are producing unemployable graduates. Meanwhile the Industry says there are not enough qualified graduates. All this is leading to a paradox where 𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐬 𝐬𝐞𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐥𝐲 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐮𝐧𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐲𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭. That when the cost for higher education has gone up substantially! Not all, but a lot of that blame can be put on the 𝐞𝐱𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐜𝐮𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐢𝐧 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬. As a result, teaching is often viewed as a load, keeping you from achieving your true 'research potential'. This leads to our curriculum not being updated, and being at least a couple of decades behind. 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐓𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐮𝐩𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞 the curriculum and forge them in modern ways. Easing the research workload might change the scenario. Some faculty members are good in research while some are good at teaching. We should nurture them both. Maybe Indian HeI must employ exclusive research professors to take care of their research requirements just like the U.S. It would help balance the requirements. However, it is important to note that research is important but it shouldn’t have to be everyone’s cup of tea. Recruitment must follow a similar principle; hire exclusive teaching and research professors.

Many average students in India end up becoming college professors. In private colleges, they are called "Assistant Professors". Along with teaching: they prepare for UPSC/GMAT/CAT. So that one day they can better their career prospects. In short, they don't really want to teach. Students are "forced" to learn from them because most colleges have 75% attendance rule. In short, the student really don't want to learn from them. So a great ecosystem is created: where the teacher isn't really interested in teaching. When we couldn't turn our passion into business, work for our dream career, pursue our interests, no more liking our job...we always introspect where it went wrong? Most of the time it's our education which is the root cause of these disappointments. I feel National Education Policy will offer bouquet of opportunities to coming generations. This series of article aiming to share my perspective about existing education system in India and what will change once National Education Policy 2020 will be executed in phases. I am inviting you to share your views, thoughts, perspectives, ideas related to education field. II / 14/04/2024 Education System Gurukul to online education at home. What a tremendous change. Ancient time, child was leaving his home and staying with his guru with other desciplies. Leaving secured life and coming out of comfort zone for education was a purpose driven journey in search of knowledge. Once you are on journey and open up yourself to find out means for living, you are every moment student and without seeking, you learn at every step, that life is a fight to survive. Now on a click you have thousands of options to know absolutely anything. But will it work all the time and in every situation ? If somebody already created data, collected information and presented in systematic way...is it required to take efforts or think differently to find out solution ? or will it be unnecessary to think also? Truly speaking...not required at all, but then what will we do with our mental capacities? Superpower brain? How will we see life in 360 degrees? What about our creativity? Our social needs? You can hate me for this😒 The schooling course works in India should change for a reason. There has not been any advancement in the past(I have no clue) how many years? This shows the importance of revolutionizing the content that is taught to kids. ➡️ 𝐏𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞'𝐬 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐬 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥. There is something called cognitive development, the thinking ability. These 18 to 22 years of schooling and graduation should prepare students for the next 50-plus years. Is it doing it? Honestly, no. ➡️ 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐚𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬. How is the same set of content/ experiments or syllabi, that was designed before the 2000s, still relevant? Maybe some of them are, but the fact is that most of them aren't. 𝐒𝐚𝐦𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐡𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐨𝐨. How many of us have financial literacy, the most common thing that is essential when you start earning? You spend more than half of your life figuring out the finances. 𝐕𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐟𝐞𝐰. How many teaching professors keep them updated with the current industrial trend? 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞. How many of the industrial training professors have worked in the industry? 𝐕𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐥𝐞. 𝐐𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: What if the entire syllabus and the education system are modernized. ? Won't it build employability patches? Think about it. 𝐀𝐧𝐬𝐰𝐞𝐫: If we go by this approach, most of the faculties will lose their job because they have been teaching the same syllabus for more than a decade, and learning new things is not that easy. The problem is the education industry has been growing. However, the relevancy of the 𝐬𝐲𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐢 𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐬 𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐨𝐥𝐝, resulting in a poor mindset.
