Copenhagen Fashion Week is about to shake up the fashion landscape in 2025. The Denmark-based event just announced that it’s banning exotic animal skins and feathers. Its just-published 2025 sustainability requirements lay out the new rules. This decision comes after a litany of high-profile investigations by PETA entities showing the torment that animals endure in the exotic-skins and feather industries. A PETA Asia investigation into the Thai exotic-skins industry just revealed that thousands of snakes are cruelly confined and then bashed over the head with hammers and impaled with hooks while they’re still moving. The two python farms that PETA Asia’s investigators visited supply skins to Caravel, a tannery owned by fashion conglomerate Kering—the parent company of Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent, and other brands. We want to celebrate Copenhagen Fashion Week for raising the bar for other events by removing all exotic skins and feathers from its catwalks. Live plucking continues for fashion! 🧥 🔎After an investigation in 2022, it was found that almost half of the 35 farms visited participated in live plucking. 📷 The disturbing footage documents geese excessively flapping their wings and vocalising their displeasure while being plucked alive. In addition, they had skin lesions, bruises, and dislocated wing bones. People think they want the latest fashion trends. What they really need is sustainability. Here's the problem: - When you buy fast fashion, it's a strain on the planet. Tons of textile waste end up in landfills. - When you support fast fashion brands, you contribute to unsustainable practices that harm our environment. - Fast fashion's appeal is fleeting, leaving our earth burdened for centuries to come. Other than the fleeting joy of a new purchase (which does feel nice; it does bring temporary joy), don’t think you’re making a harmless choice. Fashion’s fast pace is wasteful. Big wardrobes feel good but don't necessarily mean they're responsible or sustainable. Sustainability happens when the right brands make the right decisions about the environment... ...and then you support them. So if you're seeking anything, it should be supporting brands that care about our future. That's where real impactful change exists for our planet. Sounds a little less trendy? It is.
