I got to witness something truley remarkable yesterday. Here are some Lessons we all should cherish from a first time fundraiser. I spent the afternoon consulting with a guy who has never raised fund’s before and now needs to raise 7 figures for a 3 year project in 120 days! I think he is going to crush it!! Here is what I saw in him that we can all learn from: 1. Joy and wonder at the relationships they have been able to form. Viewing each a true gift. 2. Humility and awe that they are in the position to invite givers into a story that will transform lives. 3. A healthy sense of trepidation because they know the sheer amount of things they don’t know! 4. A deep sense of identity—knowing the response from potential donors is not a reflection on them. Their job is to focus on what they can control: build relationships, ask questions, invite into story. The rest is out of their control, knowing a givers response is for the giver to control. Nonprofit Leaders—we can learn a lot from this newbie!!

Another Tuesday, another lesson to teach. Today an important and universal one; the origin (or what Google says) of Giving Tuesday. The Tuesday following Thanksgiving has been tapped as "Giving Tuesday"; the day where all are encouraged to donate, volunteer, and just do GOOD. While this is something that is encouraged EVERYDAY, this particular day was identified to help non-profit organization create special campaigns and generate larger donations than they would on any other day.
