Last week, Michael Sternberg, Sid Kato, and I traveled to Louisville, Kentucky, to attend Mid-America Trucking Show (MATS). The event was larger than any other industry event I've attended, and I'd like to share a few key takeaways. 1. Carriers view Brokers in a very negative light. This is something that needs to be addressed. Neither business exists without the other, so instead of working against one another, we need to find a path forward to work beside one another that benefits all parties in a positive light. 2. The presence of numerous families at MATS underscored the familial nature of the trucking industry. During MATS, an idea popped into my head that would actually consider where a trucker lives and recommend lanes that keep him or her closer to home while continuing to stay profitable. Most of us take for granted how good we have it when we get to go home each night to our families after work. 3. Despite not directly serving the asset community, our participation at MATS proved invaluable. It highlighted the importance of ongoing collaboration with brokers, carriers, and shippers to enhance the shipping lifecycle. Going forward, we plan on attending other supply chain events that give us a better viewpoint from all angles of our industry so that we can better serve our users and their customers. Rahmel Wattley - insightful interview with the inspiring business leader John Oren of TUYA Technologies Seven principles and wisdom I heard in the interview: 1) make customers' lives easier (John helped an oil major reduce 2,000 suppliers to only one delivery supplier) 🥇 2) amid success, save money for the rainy days (to help clients and capitalize on down turn acquisitions) 💸 3) share credit... no ego (John asked another leader to come in as CEO after going public) 4) rollups in highlight fragmented industry create value: simply put, economies of scale help reduce costs and improve service 5) think as an owner / operator: invest time and attention, not just money, to make a stable, thriving business. 6) listen to your partner (wife / husband)! "Don't gamble with grocery money" 7) inspiration: be fearless, research the idea, invest the time. "All kinds of good things by living the dream"!

Listened to a great chat today between Ari Ashe and Samantha Jones on Meet Me for Coffee ☕ with conversations around the Baltimore Port amid the tragic collapse of the bridge. If you missed it, here are my 3 main takeaways from the talk ⬇ 🚧 Although it is still too early to tell, Ari and Sam estimated that it will take many months for the Port of Baltimore to get back up and running full speed. Many shippers will look to divert cargo to the Port of Norfolk and the Port of New York and New Jersey for the time being. Look for increased volumes in those areas in the coming months ☣ Hazmat Drivers are the most impacted OTR drivers since they are unable to use the tunnels that will act as detours for the other drivers on the road. They will have to utilize other bridges around Baltimore, as hazmat drivers cannot drive through tunnels while in transit with hazardous material 🚗 The Automotive industry will be the most impacted industry due to the Port of Baltimore being largest Ro-Ro port on the east coast. Look for these Ro-Ro shipments to be diverted to the Ports in Philadelphia, Savannah, Jacksonville and Charleston for the next few months.
