Our first panel discussion of the day at AI x KM: The Next Frontier in Legal Knowledge Management (April 24th): How KM&I Teams are Paving the Way for AI in Legal Practice & Law Firm Operations: New Roles, New Tools, New Strategies #artificialintelligence is transforming the legal sector, creating new opportunities and challenges for law firms and their clients. To succeed in this AI-enabled world, law firms need to adapt their processes, workflows, and value propositions, and leverage the potential of AI to enhance their service delivery and competitive edge. #Knowledge and information (K&I) teams are at the forefront of this change, as they play a vital role in facilitating the adoption and integration of AI solutions in law firms. In this session, Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP's Iris Skornicki, Elizabeth Wilkinson, and Gina Lynch will explore how K&I teams are strategically reshaping their roles and responsibilities to become the vanguards of #AIintegration. We will examine how these teams are expanding their traditional functions of managing and disseminating knowledge, to leading and participating in the development, testing, customization, and implementation of AI tools and models. We will also discuss how K&I teams are developing new competencies and structures to support the training and education of lawyers and operations staff on AI, to monitor the AI landscape and advancements, to gather and analyze requirements from lawyers and clients, to run pilot projects and evaluate outcomes, and to communicate AI-related progress and value both internally and externally. rapid change. Of course, clients will look to firms for guidance, transparency, and collaboration. What’s the risk to your firm in not making considerable investments in the AI space? Looking for more insights about using #GenAI in #legal than you can glean from pitting models and/or tools against each other? Look no further—Ashurst’s people have spoken and here’s what we learned: 1️⃣ Value: The initial value of GenAI for legal is in helping lawyers create first drafts quicker and more efficiently. 2️⃣ Accuracy: GenAI-generated output can be difficult to distinguish from human output when legally correct. 3️⃣ Quality: Quality in a legal context is multi-dimensional, with subjective and objective elements. 4️⃣ Scope: Beyond legal and client work, GenAI can make day-to-day life easier and help people feel more prepared for the future. 5️⃣ Adoption: The ‘jagged frontier’ of AI in the legal industry needs clarification to derive value. #VoxPopulAI #GenAIJune Sarah Chambers Sophia Slade Chris Boulter Richard Keaney https://lnkd.in/ePDE5BHC

#AI in #legaltech is about solving issues faced by legal teams, not about incorporating the latest buzzword. It's about using #generativeAI to streamline workflow as Rawia Ashraf of Thomson Reuters explains in this interview with Today's General Counsel: https://bit.ly/48je6TM #ainews #legal #legalteam #legalnews

It doesn't get much better than spending a lively hour with Jordan Furlong Jae Um and Anand Upadhye exploring the future of law firms and legal education. One of the most interesting (and fun!) conversations I've been honored to join! Excited for the AI Pathfinders Assembly Inside Practice LLC. Thank you for convening these important, timely, and lively discussions. #generativeai #legalinnovation #lawfirms
Yesterday at Inflection Point: The Legal AI Revolution – Part 2 we examined what it means to be a lawyer in today’s AI-enabled world, #AI Investments, talent consolidation, trust, and client use, and how AI will transform the value proposition of the law firms in the future. We would like to thank all of our speaking faculty including Anand Upadhye, Danielle Benecke, David Cunningham, Nicole Bradick, David Wang, Ken Crutchfield, Alison Grounds, David Perez, Scott Rechtschaffen, Jacqueline Schafer, Christian Lang, Natalie Pierce, Ed Walters, Joel Roy, Jordan Furlong, Jennifer Leonard, Jae Um, Andrew P. Medeiros, Jessica Davis, Christopher Forstner, Jenn McCarron, Jason Barnwell, James Ding, Samuel Smolkin and event partners DraftWise and Office & Dragons for an incredible day of discussion, thought leadership and insights. Full review coming soon. Next, we turn our attention to Legal AI Pathfinder’s Assembly: New York. Taking place December 7th, hosted by Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP this peer-to-peer forum is being developed for law firms to share progress, experience, observations, and experimentation in an intimate setting as we collectively grapple with the development of strategic roadmaps that will help guide proper investment, education, and deployment of emerging AI tools and tech. The program will showcase how Gunderson Dettmer, BakerHostetler. Troutman Pepper, Gibson Dunn and Mayer Brown are leaning in, proactively experimenting, and invested in the strategic integration of AI into both the firm’s practice and business – providing an opportunity to take stock of where we collectively stand as the year winds down — exploring and addressing several critical questions that will help us all to better understand our own firm readiness concerning a future rife with complexity, opportunity, and risk. Without question, there are some early adopters that had the foresight to begin their AI and tech journeys years ago. While other firms are merely attempting to determine a point of entry on a train that’s already moving. In either case, we hope you will join us as we assess and dissect an emerging collective blueprint poised to redefine conventional operational paradigms that will reshape the very DNA of law firm operational strategy. Seating is limited. Reserve your spot today! Early bird - Confirm your place by October 11th and save $200 More Information: https://lnkd.in/ewAyXwaV

A year ago, I would have told you there would be no more interesting development to affect law firms in our lifetimes than hybrid work environments. Fast forward a year later, and I am captivated by the complex questions Generative AI has raised for the profession. The convergence of these two unforeseen forces and a host of others generate (pardon the expression) rich opportunities for change to lawyer formation and legal service delivery. These trends also raise challenging questions about leadership, strategy, tech adoption, lifelong learning, and the increasing need to imagine and prepare for nearly limitless possible futures in a field known for its reliance on precedent. So, I'm delighted to join a conversation about this fascinating topic with some of the most brilliant minds in legal--Jordan Furlong, Jae Um, and Anand Upadhye. I hope you can join us as we explore how emerging technologies might impact the law firm business model and the exciting and challenging ripple effects this moment could create. #futureoftheprofession #generativeai #lawfirms
Let’s pose the question – how might #AI fundamentally redefine the conventional #lawfirm structure, billing model, and value proposition? Is it feasible to believe that law firms can simply continue to sell hourly units of human judgement into a future that will inevitably be rife with tech-forward legal startups—not to mention the #BigFour consultancies, which are aggressively venturing into legal services buoyed by their AI prowess? This panel discussion taking place online on September 14th at Inflection Point: The Legal AI Revolution – Part 2 (https://lnkd.in/gd_Rk7GB) will posit whether the distinctive human elements of legal practice - nuanced judgment, empathy, negotiation skills, among others - can continue to provide traditional law firms with a competitive edge, or if the algorithmic efficiency and cost-effectiveness of AI will render these aspects less relevant in the future. Perhaps it boils down to a “Run the Company vs. Bet the Company” distinction. If AI is going to disrupt and restructure the industry – arguably crashing the “Run the Company” work that law firms have long enjoyed, who is best positioned to pick up the low-level/high volume legal work at scale? Anand Upadhye, Jennifer Leonard, Jordan Furlong and Jae Um will critically examine the long-term viability of the traditional law firm model amidst the rapid emergence and proliferation of generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies, and the concurrent rise of new players in the legal services market – and will further scrutinize how the incorporation of AI technologies by non-traditional legal service providers, including the Big Four consultancies, may intensify competitive pressures, potentially disrupting the market dominance of established law firms. To what extent will traditional law firms be forced to reimagine their value proposition in the not-too-distant future? And what are the strategic considerations for traditional #lawfirms navigating this paradigm shift? Join the conversation on September 14th at Inflection Point: The Legal AI Revolution – Part 2. Confirm your place today: https://lnkd.in/gd_Rk7GB

Really interesting article here for those in legal but any industry really - the key point is in the heading - thanks for the share Richard W Smith. We're seeing this sort of requirement JUST starting to emerge. It seems right now to be linked to the level of awareness/priority placed on AI by the organisation creating/reviewing/vetting the panel i.e. if the organisation is not using AI or not focussed on it then less emphasis is placed on that as a panel pre-qualification/retention criterion. There's no doubt in my view this will become standard and the criteria will also become more specific and sophisticated in the short (not long) term. Definitely worth a read! #CLI2024 #legalgenAI
