Having lived in Texas and Louisiana my whole life, hurricanes have been an ever-present reality. When I was in high school, Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, requiring us to evacuate and relocate for months. More recently while living in Austin, Winter Storm Uri nearly took down the entire Texas power grid. The impact of Hurricane Beryl reminds us of the growing frequency and intensity of climate-related weather events. Our Haven Energy team members in Houston are still waiting for power to be restored, five days after the storm hit, emphasizing the ongoing challenges we face. To the line crews, engineers, and others working around the clock to get the power turned back on, thank you. With every bad storm, there's a renewed sense of urgency around upgrading our grid infrastructure so it's ready to respond for the next big one. But it's not just about making repairs. It's also about rethinking the solutions. And part of the solution should include helping people store energy at home so they always have a reliable source of power. Distributed resources are essential to our shared energy future, offering flexibility and protection to homeowners, communities, and the state. Let's rebuild for resilience.
