Frequently people are focusing on buildings and infrastructure in regeneration plans, but we think it's important to talk about cultural regeneration too. People and activity need to be a part of regeneration if it's going to have the impact it should. Education & empowerment is key to meeting Net Zero ambitions and teaching our future generations about the importance of biodiversity & sustainability and Architects of Change does exactly that

Local governments play a key role in influencing the design of neighbourhoods and have many tools available to activate best practices in designing for social connectedness. Participatory models, deliberative ways of working with community, change making to drive social cohesion outcomes for communities and approaches to strengthening social cohesion have been extensively studied and developed. These practices along with other case studies will be highlighted the upcoming national Strengthening Social Cohesion Conference, 3-5 July 2024, delivered by Western Sydney University with the support of the Department of Home Affairs and the NSW Premier’s Department. Early bird ticket sales will be closing 10 May 2024, however if cost is a barrier there are a limited number of travel subsidies available, and ticket fees may be waived upon request. The conference, held over three days between July 3-5, will bring together representatives from community, government and industry across the nation to discuss all aspects of social cohesion and democratic resilience. It will focus on the practical skills and capabilities that are critical for creating positive impacts within the community, featuring both Australian and international speakers. The Arts Matter in CT. More Arts funding means the arts can be even bigger business. Currently at 4% of CT GDP, more than construction…and the Arts improve health, wellbeing and education too!

We’re incredibly proud to have been a partner on this project with London Borough of Camden who have created the toolkit "Interpreting Statues and Memorials in the Public Realm." As part of a phased programme, Camden Council is reinterpreting around 70 statues and memorials across the borough. This initiative aims to provide balanced and historically accurate narratives that acknowledge both the positive contributions and the more controversial aspects of the figures commemorated. One of the key successes of this project has been the reinterpretation of statues of Virginia Woolf, Noor Inayat Khan, and Bertrand Russell. These reimagined narratives, enriched with diverse perspectives, are now accessible to the public via QR codes, offering a more inclusive view of history. The toolkit emphasises the critical role of community involvement in this process. By engaging local residents in meaningful discussions, we ensure that our public spaces reflect a wide range of voices and stories. Beyond interpretation, the toolkit also offers essential guidance on legal considerations, ownership issues, and project governance, serving as a practical resource for local authorities looking to undertake similar initiatives. This is a thought-provoking article, highlighting there are perhaps better options to build a future and still preserve the past. There are many options in our expansive,changing city, yet there was no prior public consultation about this parkland and historic location for a new hospital, nor were the government's history, heritage, and education protecting bodies involved in this decision prior to simply announcing it as fait accompli by current Government.
