This is so important - thank you to the Wildlife Trust for sharing. It is critical we diversify our work force and action needs to be taken now. I am so aware of my privilege in my career and every day life and think a lot about what you need to not just enter in to the world of conservation but remain in it. It’s far from inclusive and we need to do better. We must do more than say ‘we encourage applicants from all backgrounds to apply’. That doesn’t do enough to change the system. We need inclusive apprenticeships, internships and volunteering opportunities. We need inclusive school trips to the countryside and introductions to nature. We need to address the barriers and remove them. An ENTRY LEVEL job advert often states you must have years of experience whether that’s voluntary or paid, a driving license, qualifications and tickets – this is not what inclusion looks like. I would love to talk others in the sector that are passionate about this and look at what we can do in our respective roles to help make change.
