Pride month is around the corner... Are you at risk for rainbow washing? Each year during Pride, companies modify their logo and merch with rainbow colours and images to demonstrate their support for the LGBTQ+ community. But are some of them just monetizing the rainbow? You might be familiar with green or blue washing, but another emerging issue in the ESG-universe to be aware of is rainbow washing—using rainbows in advertising or branding to indicate support for the LGBTQ+ community, but without providing that same support and advocacy for this marginalized group throughout the rest of the year. Our CEO and Founder Ivy (Ivanna) Lumia had a chance to sit down with the legendary Rob Smith to discuss the critical importance of an organization’s governance of LGBTQ+ matters and what Boards can do to mitigate the risk of rainbow washing.
