Picture a single droplet of water, following its care-free journey from streams to mighty trees, leading to the majestic landscapes that make us appreciate the beauty of nature. That's a watershed: the area where all water drains into a common water body, connecting us all in one way or another. That's why at HeartLands Conservancy, we are dedicated to managing our projects by watershed to protect not only our natural habitats from harm but also our communities. If you are interested in learning more about Metro East Watersheds, you can learn more on our watersheds page: https://lnkd.in/gSKcmntK #UnifiedByNature

Today, 5th June marks another #WorldEnvironmentDay. 🍃 🌍 The theme this year: Land restoration, desertification and drought resilience. #MillenniumForest is a great example of #landrestoration, from a barren eroded wasteland to a thriving forest. The aim is to restore the once ‘Great Wood’- a forest of endemic gumwoods (Commidendrum robustum). 💮🌳 Restoration work first started in the 1980s and the official launch was in 2000. Many funded projects and staff have contributed to the forests advance. Today the forest covers over 25 hectares, provides habitat for other endemic species (Wirebird, gumwood leafhopper and Loveridge’s hoverfly) as well as creating a community space. 🍀🍃🌳 Support the Millennium Forest! #sthelenaisland #conservation #communityforest

Wetlands create cool, green spaces in our community, and habitats for native wildlife. Through the Drainage for Liveability Program we're working with local governments to turn stormwater drains into living streams. 💧 🌿 A number of these projects include the restoration or protection of existing wetlands in Perth. But it also supports the build of new wetlands out of existing stormwater basins, like this one in Cannington. Projects like the Wharf Street Smart Park create healthy ecosystems, biodiversity habitat, increased vegetation, and reduction of urban heat. All while improving local community access to green spaces, benefiting the community and environment. 🌱 Learn more >> https://bit.ly/3SGFZQL #WorldWetlandsDay #WetlandsAndHumanWellbeing

The loss of 74.4% of global mangroves since 1996 is alarming, but the potential for restoration is high. It's crucial to support large-scale interventions for mangrove restoration. The 'Best Practice Guidelines for Mangrove Restoration' by the Global Mangrove Alliance are invaluable for this cause. Let's raise awareness and take action to protect and restore mangroves. #WorldMangroveDay #WeNeedWetlands #GenerationRestoration #ForNature #SupportMangroveRestoration. We 💙 wetlands! May is #AmericanWetlandsMonth, an opportunity to raise awareness about the ecological, social, and economic importance of wetlands especially those here in Massachusetts. Currently, Massachusetts has over 48,000 diverse acres of wetlands from the tidal wetlands found on our coasts to inland bogs, vernal pools, and more. Unfortunately, many have been filled, drained, ditched, polluted, and otherwise damaged. To undo the damage, DER works with many partners to carry out wetland restoration projects throughout the Commonwealth. Why do you love wetlands? 📸: Division of Ecological Restoration

Did you know that there are hundreds of thousands of watercourse crossings in Alberta? And did you know that many of them have the potential to negatively influence the ability of Alberta’s fish species to migrate between important habitats? Alberta hosts over 60 fish species, including Arctic grayling, Athabasca rainbow trout, bull trout, and Westslope cutthroat trout, which depend on pristine, cold, and interconnected water systems. Sadly, these species are now in decline due to fragmented habitats and worsening water quality. Historical road construction didn't fully consider environmental impacts, leaving a vast network of crossings across various industries and regulatory zones, making fish habitat restoration a significant challenge today. Did you know Landscaping Your Life (LYL) was a corporate partner for SCOTLAND: The Big Picture and has been for 3 years. Not least because so much of LYL work uses nature in some form or other to help individuals and teams to reduce the overwhelm and have clarity about what to do next. This poem I wrote shares why I think there’s a link between the important work Peter and everyone at STP do links to the work I do. Rewild your life Rewild your life not just on the outside on the inside too Like nature we seem to have smoothed the rough edges taken out the risk and played it safe It’s as if we too have chopped down the trees, straightened the rivers and reused the flood plains in our lives No longer allowed to meander to get to our destination and instead aiming for the quickest and most direct route to win the day No longer with flood plains able to absorb the stress but every inch of plain full of activity and every minute on it accounted for Every inner mountain cleared of trees just as those on the outside have with nothing left to absorb the overwhelming floods leaving the emotions to run amok further down the landscape Rewild feels scary because wild feels scary and yet it’s who we are Not the now familiar domestication nor cultivated to within an inch of our lives wild and free Free to allow all parts of us to be seen to bring every quality to the party because the outside world needs our rewilded selves too What can you do to add a little more of the unexpected and a little less tame into your life? How will you rewild your life #landscapingyourlife #rewilding #nature #sustainability #regeneration

For centuries, Scotland’s rivers have been straightened, confined and tidied, but today, rivers are being rewiggled, deadwood is being reintroduced and artificial barriers are being removed, returning rivers to their natural meandering course, diversifying flows and restoring connectivity from source to sea.
