No jobs till next year for the VFX, film and TV industry! Apparently... Except I'm seeing loads of studios hiring for a variety of projects. Staff celebrating new roles and new contracts, all over my feed. What you choose to believe shapes your life. (And also shapes the social media algorithim lol) Right now you can chose to believe there are jobs and you can get a contract in the next month or you can choose to believe you have to wait till 2025. I do believe the industry is unstable. This belief made me take action to create other streams of income so when these times happen I don't get stressed about survival! Once you have a stable income make sure strikes, short contracts and the instability of the industry never effect your home life in a negative way again and build those mutiple streams of income!

Absolutely! There's more to it and cost implications to both sides of course but ultimately, VFX supes are here to help. Our job is to help SAVE THE FILM MONEY by ensuring things are done in such a way that you don't end up with a huge vfx bill at the end. Something as simple as moving that cable in the bg 1 foot to the right.... or shifting one tracking marker on the background that's behind that actress's hair...could save you $$ in cleanup. You have to weigh up the costs both ways but yes often... doing a small tweak could ultimately save you $$. (Larger stuff can sometimes have large cost implications on set so there has to be a balance)

Thought for the day: Studios can save a ton of money with one small adjustment to your shooting schedule: listen to your onset VFX Supervisor. When they ask to move a light or an extra light for a better green screen, do it. When they ask for a clean plate, do it. When they ask for additional shots of extras, do it. VFX Sups are trying to save you money in post and make the vendors job a tad easier, ensuring quality shots. Don’t treat them like a pain in the ass, treat your VFX Sup like a post production superhero looking to save you time, money, and mental anguish.

Occasionally, I'm asked what a VFX producer does. The truth is, the answer varies depending on the team, the scale of the project, and the roles defined by each company, so it's hard to pin down a one-size-fits-all response. I’d like to share some insights into the tasks I've handled at my most recent job. Hopefully, this will give you a glimpse into the variety of responsibilities a VFX producer might have. Keep in mind that our work isn't always done in a straight line or by tackling just one task at a time. I'm giving you a snapshot of the kinds of things we do, but it's far from everything. For instance, I haven't even mentioned improving pipelines and workflows—something I spent a lot of time on in my previous position. With #YoungWomanAndTheSea now finally in cinemas, I thought I would take the opportunity to share a timeline from Reel 2 of our picture tracklay in Avid Media Composer. From bottom up as you would expect we have drama, opticals, temp comps, vendor submissions etc however what was particularly useful here is how we tracked our sends to DI from V21 upwards. To tackle our review & send process, we nested all our VFX submissions via one track, opened up the nest to lift out which version(s) VFX production asked to review, then once approved to send we did exactly the same onto a track for each package above the mask named and dated for DI. By doing this we removed the need for any additional paperwork and kept everything we reviewed and sent within Media Composer. Or find an an agent. But definately stop making the researchers work hard, and if they can't figure out which SM page is yours because of your photo, your name, your many pages...we move on. It's Hollywood. And funded projects move in a day or two, they don't have time to waste. There's a big pool here. Show the team you are a team player. Don't be afraid to talk about the areas of production in your life. Are you an actor who is also a writer? Great! Choose that department and job title and come up in those key word searches. I have cast all media and entertainment for 37 years. I package and produce to help with distribution and funds. I teach, I raised an Autistic Man and my dog is 15 years old. I was Miss Oregon World and competed in Miss World America in the Virgin Islands. I placed and also won Miss Congeniality. I was a cheerleader. Wilhelmina broke my heart as a judge in the competition and told me to be an actor because I would never be a model. (an 18 year olds dream). Needless to say I was a pageant girl about 6 times. I have been referring people to people for work my whole life. I figured a way to do that on a bigger scale with @crewresumes Pam Bouvier The idea is to get more of a feel for the crew member or actor. Get a feeling. I built it so you can see the smart professionals who work hard and the ones who don't work so hard at it. It's brilliant really. I put the casting director eye in there and the producers needs to find, replace and hire asap. For the members, you now have one link. Your agents and managers can be in their car and say 'Go to Crew Resumes' and search your first name. One link does everything for them. Help me, Help you, Help them, which ultimately helps production, leading to more work for you. I know everyone doesn't hustle like Los Angeles or perhaps New York, and that will show. I have been meaning to update here for a bit, but wanted to let you all know that I am finally in the video game industry! I now work for Hidden Variable Studios as their Social Media Video Editor. I never thought I would make it in, and gave up on that idea and pursued it in film. It's been a long time coming, but finally made it in.
