♻ 🔄 Circles of Change in the Plastic Age: A Series of Interviews 🔄 ♻ Over the past few weeks, Sjoerdje Meijers had some meaningful conversations with our partners who, just like us, are dedicated to bringing change to this plastic age. Partners that stopped talking and started doing. Convinced that we need to shift to circular economies, and that such change is not only necessary but also possible. We have captured these conversations in a series of interviews that we will share with you the coming months. With The Ocean Cleanup, Sjoerdje talked about what happens with plastic waste after it is taken out of the ocean, and discussed our joint participation to the NPE in the united states this June. She looked at the challenges of plastic use and waste in the agriculture sector with our long-term allies, Tama Group and ADIVALOR. And covered the possibility of creating “timeless” accessories with Tide watches and the opening of their new store opening in Rotterdam, where these luxury items made from ocean waste are sold. The conversation with AION revolved around how AION is helping companies to adopt circular plastic models. And elho group | B Corp told her about the achievement of 100% use of recycled plastic in their collection and why that is important for them. With LC Packaging she spoke about their journey using recycled plastic from big bags to create new circular big bags. Our goal with these interviews is to demonstrate that creating a sustainable, circular plastic economy is possible, but only by working together! To keep the planet turning, let's keep the plastic journey going ♻️ On #GlobalRecyclingDay a question often asked is ‘why do we use plastic packs for berries?’ Our team at BerryWorld stretches across the globe and we spend a lot of time researching and evaluating which packaging formats best deliver against our objective; getting great tasting, undamaged fruit, from our fields to your home, to stay as fresh as possible, for as long as possible. We've found that currently plastic packs the perfect punch, preserving the maximum goodness for your berries while minimising environmental impact. As such, we use a type of plastic called recycled PET (RPET) wherever possible and our goal is to use the maximum amount of RPET possible. Moreover our packs are 100% recyclable, so where facilities exist, we encourage the use of recycling facilities available locally to ensure the plastic goes back into the system, so that it can be used again to make the next pack as part of our circular economy. We know plastic has its problems, from consumer perceptions to limited recycling facilities, which is why we continue to monitor innovations and insights, so that we are ready to react to ever-changing opportunities. 🌿🌏 It’s easy to see how “going green” is only relevant to big corporations. 🏢 However, even the smallest among us can do our bit to tackle plastic pollution by making some adjustments, like opting for sustainable packaging materials. And it’s never too late to start! So, let’s check if you can do at least 3 out of the following 5 actions to work towards a more sustainable future for all: 🗑️♻️ Sorting and recycling: Materials like plastic, paper, and others can be recycled and reused quite a few times. Not only does this decrease the need for extracting new materials, but also protects our ecosystems and wildlife. 🛍️🌱 Reusable bags: Using a shopping bag repeatedly decreases the resources needed to produce more plastic bags, thereby minimizing plastic pollution. 📦🌍 Reducing packaging waste: Regardless of your business, anyone can cut down on packaging materials (lessening tissue paper and plastic sleeves, using smaller boxes, etc.), meaning less waste will end up in landfills. ☕🌊 Ditch single-use plastics: Sustainable packaging materials are less likely to pollute our oceans than single-use plastics. Take a stand against the 1.8 billion cups and 1.5 billion coffee lids ending up in landfills each year and switch to Kraft paper cups (which are perfectly sustainable), opt for eco-friendly straws like pasta/rice/bamboo straws, etc. 🌱🤝 Partner up with like-minded suppliers: Team up with supply partners who share your priorities regarding eco-friendly packaging and compostable packaging materials.
