You’re probably aware that the federal government is investing close to $4 trillion in infrastructure, environmental and clean energy projects in cities and states across America. So how can funders like you help overcome the barriers between federal dollars and the places that need them most – and ensure communities make the most of these once-in-a-generation, transformational commitments? Join us Feb. 12 from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m. ET for Now What: Leveraging Federal Funds & Building Community Capacity for Climate Justice, the first in a series of quarterly calls focused on accessing and leveraging federal funds for climate and environmental justice. Presented by the Health and Environmental Funders Network (HEFN), Neighborhood Funders Group and The Funders Network this session will build upon the Thriving Communities regional convenings we hosted in the fall in partnership with Communities First. The convenings brought place-based and national funders together with federal agencies and community groups in the South, Northeast and Midwest regions. A panel of federal officials and philanthropic leaders will offer insight into what foundations are doing to mobilize around this opportunity. We’ll also get an update on the 2024 plans and goals of the federal Thriving Communities Network, which was created to help Cabinet agencies coordinate strategy, collaborate across initiatives, and target deployment of place-based technical assistance and capacity-building resources to urban, rural and Tribal communities experiencing a history of economic distress and systemic disinvestment. Join us to learn: What actions funders have taken since the regional convenings, including supporting place-based capacity-building efforts for frontline climate communities. Ways to ensure communities most impacted by environmental injustice and other inequities are able to access resources for transformative climate and infrastructure investment. How place-based foundations can support efforts to build community capacity and align resources for community-driven priorities. Register here ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/esvfRmCn Registration is open to funders only. If you have any questions about registering for this event, kindly contact Hazel Paguaga at [email protected].

Nearly $1.8 trillion federal funding could deliver the most ambitious environmental justice and workforce development agenda in our nation’s history. But growing political opposition to climate investments - and a potential change in administrations - puts these funds at grave risk. And getting these dollars into historically and systemically disinvested communities is easier said than done. Over the past several months, TFN, Health and Environmental Funders Network (HEFN) and Neighborhood Funders Group has convened hundreds of philanthropic, grassroots, and government leaders from around the U.S. to share what they are doing - and what they need - to unlock funds and move projects forward. Today, we're sharing: ➡️ How funders across our networks are heeding this call ➡️Best practices to help frontline communities access federal dollars - and ensure infrastructure & climate projects are designed equitably from start to finish. ✨ Learn more in this blog post co-authored by Dion Cartwright/TFN; Ansje Miller/HEFN and Manisha Vaze/NFG ⤵ https://bit.ly/3WUCjLT ✨And be sure to register for our Aug. 22 funder webinar, Finishing the Job: Philanthropy’s Role in Safeguarding Historic Investments in Equity, Health & Climate ⤵ https://bit.ly/3AxiO4I

A year ago I didn't know what a power forward was, despite my pretensions of Raptor fandom. Today, Power Forward Communities is one step closer to helping install $2B worth of electrification upgrades in homes and communities across America. I am not a mathy person, but that's a lot of heat pumps. And a testament to the awesome collaborative work of so many on the Rewiring America team and all our partners beyond — Enterprise Community Partners, LISC, Habitat for Humanity International, and United Way, and the hundreds of communities that have signed up to champion this work. What a neat thing to breathe life into this, our climate work. Electrifying Everything for Everyone is a broad mandate, because 'everyone' is a broad group. These funds will help the portion of everyone that could not electrify without them. Because everyone deserves clean electric machines, and the right to choose them. 'Don't despair, decarbonize!' is something I repeat to myself quite often, but somedays I feel more electric oomph than others. Today is one of those days.
Rewiring America is honored to share that Power Forward Communities, a new coalition of which we are a member, has been awarded a $2 billion, seven-year National Clean Investment Fund (NCIF) grant from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Through our partnership with some of the country’s most trusted housing, climate, and community investment groups, including Habitat for Humanity International, Enterprise Community Partners, Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC), and United Way, we’re purpose-built to help transform the housing sector, save homeowners and renters money, invest in stronger communities, and meet national climate goals. We can't meet our climate goals without investing in local communities. Thanks to Tony Pipa for pointing out that rural communities need capacity building before they can engage in federal infrastructure programs. This is why we created the Clean Energy Communities Fund (CECF) - to provide thousands of communities a supportive 'on ramp' to the clean energy future. #CleanEnergyCommunitiesFund #CommunityDrivenSolutions #JustTransition #ClimateMitigation

1 in 5 Americans are Latino. We are heavily represented in parts of the country that are deeply affected by climate change and degradation—living in the states most riddled by drought, floods, unusually high temperatures, and fires such as California, Texas, and Florida. Our neighborhoods are often adjacent to high pollution emissions. This is why it is so important that the EPA has invested in in the Justice Climate Fund (JCF) the coalition representing the greatest number of #CDFIs led by and in service to communities of color. National Association for Latino Community Asset Builders is a proud and unwavering founding member of JCF. We represent over 60 Latino CDFIs in our membership and the communities they serve nationwide. This program will ultimately help countless Latino families and entrepreneurs. We are humbled to be at the helm of this critical opportunity. This award is a starting point for large-scale federal funding opportunities to include and fund minority-led entities. But there is still more work to be done to achieve true and meaningful inclusion. P’alante! 🍃 https://lnkd.in/e39GNhJH
