There are less than four weeks to the UK General Election and we're expecting party manifestos to launch over the next week or so. Have you ever read a statistic that blows your absolute mind in the worst way!? I'm working my way through the Times Health Commissions report, and this one stopped me in my tracks👇 "The Institute for Government has calculated that 500,000 staff days are lost to mental ill health every month. Doctors are twice as likely, and nurses four times as likely, to take their own lives compared with workers in other professions." I am genuinely taken aback!😲 This goes to show the importance of the work undertaken by Acacium Group's Viewpoint programme and the power and potential it can have for our NHS clients. Understanding how healthcare workers feel isn't a nice to have, it's critical to the long-term health and sustainability of the healthcare service! Following Labour winning the #GeneralElection and Sir Keir Starmer becoming Prime Minister, Digital Health have shared Health Tech leaders reactions to the victory. This includes Steve Sawyer, managing director of The Access Group for Health, Support and Care. Steve said “Prior to the election, Wes Streeting rightly recognised that primary and social care services need to be prioritised if the NHS is going to tackle pressures across the care continuum, including in acute. “However, their manifesto did little to outline the practicalities, and there was no mention of funding. Now in government, Labour has to deliver on these commitments. “Quick wins include scaling the digitisation of effective services like social prescribing, which is proven to divert pressure away from GPs and support patients, particularly those with mental health needs, in the community. “Tech-enabled care is another tangible solution that empowers people to manage their conditions in their own homes and helps social care services to support a larger cohort of individuals more efficiently. “Now is not the time for reinventing the wheel, but about focusing on scaling digitally enabled transformation across all parts of the NHS and social care, which has often been overlooked.” Link to the full article in the comments below ##Health #HealthTech #HealthSupportCare #Election #TEC #TechnologyEnabledCare

Are the most impactful healthcare innovations anarchist? This is such a great post from Deborah Fenney on how core anarchist principles like self-organisation, mutual aid, co-operation and flat structures have shaped some powerful initiatives in healthcare over the years. As a bit of an anarchist myself (OK, more than a bit!), I obviously love this perspective. But you don’t need to be an anarchist to be inspired by the idea that people collectively shaping and delivering healthcare for themselves can be hugely empowering and effective. And, as Deborah points out, that doesn’t imply health professionals withdrawing support from those that need it. It simply means providing it in a different, more respectful and empowering way. As the blog says: “where many of us often feel like things happen outside of our control, perhaps anarchist ideas could help us to understand and maximise the power we do have to act, not as individual heroes, but together.” I think this is an idea that applies not just to those outside the healthcare system but also those working in it.
