Thanks Spencer Fane for being so focused on mental health in the legal profession. There is a pandemic of mental unhealth, addiction, and other life-threatening issues that plague my industry. We can talk about it all we want in general at conferences, have panels, etc., but the real progress comes from: 1) talking about it whenever possible to destigmatize mental health issues, addiction, and the like; and 2) lawyers fundamentally change the way we interact with each other in lawsuits. We can provide stellar legal representation while doing all that we can to make our opposing counsel's life a living hell. We can all do better.

⚽ Last week was #MentalHealthAwareness Week, highlighting the theme “Movement” and its importance for mental wellbeing. Physical activity is crucial for children’s growth and #mentalhealth. However, it must occur in safe environments. 👉 Disturbingly, a World Athletics study revealed that 35% of former youth athletes experienced non-contact sexual violence, and 20% experiences contact sexual violence as children in sports. 🟢 The impacts of such abuse can be severe, often leading to depression, PTSD, and anxiety. While exercise is not a complete solution, it aids in therapeutic interventions, helping managing anxiety and stress and creating a sense of belonging and purpose. 📣 At #ProtectChildren, we are dedicated to ending all forms of sexual violence against children. Our holistic approach includes working with professionals, law enforcements, and other representatives of the child protection sector. We promote age-appropriate sexual education and support survivors through our advocacy and peer support groups. We strive to create safe environments where children can enjoy their childhoods free from abuse. Despite achieving academic success and becoming a lawyer in 2019, Ferguson found that the pressures of the legal profession exacerbated his mental health issues. He highlights the importance of the Law Society of Ontario's health summit in 2021, which played a pivotal role in his mental health journey. Ferguson emphasizes the need for the legal profession to continue addressing mental health openly, advocating for more supportive programs and policies. His experience underscores the significance of understanding and accommodating mental health within the workplace.
