🎯Congratulations! FI alumni company UltraSight will collaborate with Mayo Clinic in a new endeavor that seeks to enhance cardiac care by harnessing the power of AI in point-of-care ultrasound. The two organizations will jointly develop algorithms for analyzing and interpreting cardiac ultrasound images. This collaboration aims to create a new end-to-end solution and decision support to help healthcare providers make more informed diagnoses and treatment decisions using point-of-care ultrasound (PoCUS) devices. Under this collaboration Mayo Clinic is now an investor in UltraSight.   "Obtaining diagnostic quality cardiac images at the patient point of care is only the first step needed to increase patient access to quality care," said UltraSight CEO Davidi Vortman. "Through this collaboration, we plan to enhance our solution to detect and manage cardiac conditions in a more scalable and cost-effective way, ultimately helping more patients receive timely treatment." Groundbreaking AI Study Slashes Heart Attack Treatment Times 🚀❤️ A recent study published in the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM) showcases how artificial intelligence is revolutionizing cardiac care. The ARISE trial demonstrated that an AI-powered ECG system can significantly reduce treatment delays for patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), a severe type of heart attack. Some key findings were: 14-minute reduction in door-to-balloon time for ER patients 5.6-minute decrease in ECG-to-balloon time for hospitalized patients High accuracy with 89.5% positive and 99.9% negative predictive values While promising, the study's single-center design and short follow-up period call for further research to confirm these results across diverse healthcare settings. A big congratulations to Eko Health on receiving FDA clearance for its Low EF detection AI, developed in collaboration with Mayo Clinic. Low ejection fraction is a primary source of heart failure and can now be detected during routine physical examinations in just 15 seconds using an Eko stethoscope. “The ability to identify a hidden, potentially life-threatening heart condition using a tool that primary care and subspecialist clinicians are familiar with—the stethoscope—can help us prevent hospitalizations and adverse events. While successful examples like virtual FFR exist, significant challenges remain in electrophysiology. Our review discusses these challenges, including improving modeling reproducibility and validation, advancing personalization of structural and electrophysiological properties, and demonstrating the clinical benefit of digital twin-guided care. Despite the hurdles, we believe digital twins have immense potential in arrhythmia ablation guidance and risk stratification. Great book on the market, The Virtual You, by Peter Coveney and Roger Highfield, presents the state-of-the-art and open challenges to fully realize the vision of #precisionmedicine. #FDA is keen on embracing these tools, at stated in the #NEJM article from 2017: "If it can be shown that these virtual patients are similar, in a precisely defined way, to real patients, future trials may be able to rely partially on virtual-patient information, thus lessening the burden of enrolling additional real patients."
