Transforming Education with a Twist! As I journey through schools across our great state, I've noticed a cherished tradition – college and university pennants adorning walls and windows. It's a symbol of aspiration, and I fully support our students reaching for the stars through higher education. But here's the twist: Not every path to success leads through a college gate. Some students face barriers like costs, rigorous academic demands, or different career dreams. For them, we proudly introduce our Workforce Centers of Excellence! Imagine this: Alongside traditional college pennants, our Workforce Centers of Excellence will proudly display a new set of pennants. These won't feature university logos, but the names of industries and businesses our students will aspire to work for. Picture a lineup with names like BMW, Volvo, Harbor Freight, SC Ports Authority, Scout Motors, Boeing – the list goes on! Let's inspire a new generation to chase their dreams, whether through higher education or alternative pathways to fulfilling and prosperous careers. Our commitment to innovation knows no bounds, and the future belongs to those who dare to dream differently. Join us in this educational revolution! Together, we're shaping a brighter future where every student can thrive no matter the path they choose. Dan Dougherty '96 was a double major at Virginia Tech, which included our communication studies major. Now, he's the Sales & Marketing Leader, Electronic Systems for John Deere and continues to serve Hokies on the Dean's Roundtable for the Virginia Tech College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences! "Classes in my majors gave me the recipe to apply those ingredients strategically and critically," Dougherty said. "I learned how to both analyze and think creatively. But beyond that, the experiential nature of my classes helped me learn the value of teamwork and how to work with others to solve problems." True education is not just about memorizing facts, but rather about learning how to ask the right questions. As Anatole France said, "It's being able to differentiate between what you know and what you don't." In a world where information is readily available, the ability to ask the right questions is more important than ever. It allows us to think critically, solve problems, and ultimately achieve greater success in our personal and professional lives. So let's focus on developing our ability to ask the right questions and unlock the power of true education. #education #learning #criticalthinking

Day 15: Why I Chose to Study EMBA Exactly 10 years ago, I contemplated returning to school, but life led me down other paths. Now, here I am in London, 10 years later, happy to share my three-month experience at LBS. First, the academics. Our human knowledge is a continuous accumulation of experiments and new findings. In the midst of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, we witness Moore’s Law manifesting in our reality. It’s a great opportunity to learn from the top-class faculty. Second, the depth of our maturity. It’s been eye-opening to discover the intelligence and open-mindedness of the individuals who bring their expertise to the school. This extends beyond the EMBA program to the entire academic community. Third, the openness to new experiences. We perceive the world through our own lens. In the business realm where money often dictates, it’s natural to seek dreams that not only fulfill us but also contribute positively to others’ lives while maintaining a level of comfort in our daily routines. Don’t hesitate, because time doesn’t wait for you. #lbs #emba #myreasons
