Who else HATES $h!t management⁉️⁉️ We just interviewed a Tax Accountant When speaking with him, his No.1 most important thing about his next position was good management 🧑💼 He said there’s nothing worse than: - Feeling unrecognised or undervalued - Feeling as if your opinion doesn’t matter - Having a lack of support and training - No clear direction or goals to work towards This isn’t our first time hearing this and I’m sure it won’t be our last ❌ If you’re noticing problems in your team, it may be a good idea to look at yourself/management first, before anyone else… Find the root of the problem instead focussing on the symptoms 🧑⚕️ On the flip side, having a great manager will: - Empower teams - Increase motivation - Increase productivity - Contribute towards a great working environment It’s vital that you have solid management personnel in place, not doing so could be critical 🤯 P.s we all know Michael Scott would be a great manager #management #theoffice #recruitment #accountants

Role title ≠ Role responsibility I had a candidate ask me yesterday what the difference was between a Finance Manager and a Financial Controller. Whilst I ran through the main differences with her and gave examples, I ended my advice with the fact that it feels like some companies pick titles out of a hat. You can see a role advertised as a Finance Director, yet it’s essentially a glorified Finance Manager. It’s so important to understand what the role does, the responsibilities, the exposure, the report lines, the stakeholders, the team size, the structure of that team (what’s dealt with by someone else) etc etc. Don’t take a role on title alone. It’s not as simple as Finance Manager - Financial Controller - Finance Director - CFO. It is true that some turnover is good but in most industries if the turnover rate is greater than 50% on a consistent basis, you are not keeping your best performers. I have had countless conversations with jobseekers who are looking to leave because of their company's high employee turnover. The story goes something like this...... Company X is on it's third Controller in as many years. The Accounting Manager is fed up with the constant leadership changes and gets an increased workload without a pay raise every time the company conducts a 2-3 month search to find a new Controller. The Accounting Manager eventually leaves for a job with a stable leadership team. The Staff and Senior Accountants are left wondering why all the managers and leaders continue to leave. Also the staff are underpaid in the market so they are open to exploring new opportunities and leave when they find a higher paying job. In six months or so, the company has had to replace 4+ people in their accounting and finance department. And if nothing changes, the cycle repeats for decades upon decades. There is a better and different way but it is often the road less traveled.
