I’m proud to say that I am (finally) the first in my family to graduate college and as a Chemical Engineer.
As I’m sitting on my couch writing this, the memories are running through my mind. My parents doing everything they can to help me learn as a child, my grandmother cooking for me so that I never studied hungry, my sisters helping around the house so that I could get my homework done, my Bayuncos forcing me to get out of the house to get some sun, my teachers in Elizabeth doing everything they can to help a Hispanic kid from the Port succeed, my UCVTS family helping me figure out what is and how to apply to college, and lastly, how my late pets: Scooby, Princessa, and Negrito were always there for me when I just needed someone to rant to.
It is thanks to my family and city that I made it to college. And it is only because of the friends I made while in Boston that I was able to complete my undergraduate degree. I greatly appreciate the crowd that surrounded around me and supported me while being alone here in the big city. We did this together. It takes a village to raise a child and I’m grateful to have such a strong one.
My next challenge is going to be obtaining my PhD in Materials Science & Engineering at Boston University. I’m ready!!
We are so happy to have you representing Draper at this conference!
