Women’s History Month   Nowadays, seeing a female engineer, architect or surveyor doesn't surprise anyone. While females are still underrepresented in the construction industry, the numbers are on the rise which is a positive sign. However, reflecting on Women’s History Month, we remember that only 100 years ago women in the UK were still fighting for the right to vote and so today we are celebrating those early pioneers. The written history of women in construction goes back to the 17th century with Lady Ann Clifford managing the redevelopment of her Westmorlands Estate. The first architectural drawings produced by a women date back to 18th century and are attributed to Lady Elizabeth Wilbraham and her design of St Andrews Church in Staffordshire. How many of us know that it was Sarah Guppy who in the 19th century patented a safe method for pilling bridges? Or who is aware that Waterloo Bridge is also known as Ladies Bridge as it was built by around 350 women during WW2. Names and contributions of women often get overlooked throughout history but we mustn't forget about the ladies who paved the way for women in construction and so today we celebrate such ladies as Ethel Charles, the first women accepted to RIBA (1898), Alice Perry, the first women to graduate as an engineer (1906) or Irene Barclay, the first female Chartered Surveyor (1922), because of ladies like these, women today are inspired to do a job they want and love. The challenges still exist but history shows with passion and determination, we can continue to create a more inclusive industry suitable for everyone. #WomensHistoryMonth #Construction #AnsteyHorneNews

NACOM Companies Inc completes the Estelle V. Malberg Early Childhood Center project in Cherry Hill, NJ. This project significantly contributed to the overall enhancement of the Early Childhood Center’s facilities and infrastructure, greatly improving, and enhancing educational spaces. The scope of the project addressed various aspects that enhanced the overall functionality and accessibility of the center. Key highlights of the project include: > Site and Accessibility Improvements: Enhancements to the site layout for improved functionality including accessibility improvements to ensure a more inclusive environment. > ADA Ramps: The addition of ADA ramps to facilitate easy and barrier-free access while ensuring compliance with accessibility standards for individuals with disabilities. > Connection to Playground: Improved connectivity between the school and public parking areas to the new playground creating a seamless transition for students and visitors. > Sub-drainage System: Implementation of a sub-drainage system with storm water connections from existing roof drains that addressed drainage needs for efficient water management. > Playground & Fencing Replacement: Removal of dated playground and fence and installation of a new playground for children, with updated fencing and gates connecting to the existing building. #ImprovingEducationalSpaces #ConstructionEngineering #DesignEngineerBuild #NACOMProject #ImprovingSpaces
