Do you celebrate your career birthday? I do. My career turned 18 today. More mature, I would believe. So much experienced, so much seen. Still a long way to go. The joy of meeting some great professionals along the journey, and sadly drifting away from most of them. Only to start afresh. New organizations, new-found energy. The joy of learning something new, every single day. The uncertainties, the obvious. Colleagues-turned-friends. It only gets better. One more year, and looking back at what I gained, and what I can achieve more. Endless possibilities. Thank you to all my colleagues, past and present, and my LinkedIn community, for the engagement. I want to express some gratitude for a few things this morning (as well as ask some questions that I also ask myself): 1. I (mostly) believe in the old adage "If you're the smartest person in the room, you're in the wrong room" because being in a room with knowledgeable folks allows you to learn so much from them. I'm so thankful for opportunities to network with (and hear from) professionals who excel in their field. One of these individuals recently stated how important it is that even if you're not the sharpest knife in the drawer, at least you're in the drawer. What efforts are you taking to be in the drawer? 2. I am thankful for getting to know folks who also take the time to get to know me. I believe that while it's great to know people, it's just as important for them to know you. If you're in a situation where it's about who you know and not what you know then what are you doing to ensure people get to know you (like really get to know you)? 3. I'm thankful for having the opportunity to share what I love with others and that my excitement has continued to persist throughout the course of years. I believe in the power of opportunities and leveraging my excitement through them to share what I value. What are you doing to provide opportunities for awareness and growth?

The season of THANKS and #GRATITUDE is here and going a bit off the beaten path from the norm - I'm THANKFUL for each of YOU (professionals) in my network! Thank YOU for everyday that you worked, gained insight and grew from your last challenge (and showing others how to do it). Thank YOU for each day you had to make the hard decision to stay a little longer and/or push a little further on those days you wanted to get home early. Thank YOU for helping that new person get going, build momentum and/or understand why something was done one way versus another - when it wasn't part of your job description, not beneficial to your career or the person was not on your team (that day). Thank YOU for making the "complicated" simple/plain for people to understand. Thank YOU for sticking with it when you were already frustrated and fighting your own battles. Thank YOU for involving people who wouldn't normally be part of the conversation (so they had exposure to new situations/environments to see how decisions were made, better understand a/the process or able to update their beliefs/plans/perspective(s)). Thank YOU to everyone who has shared their experiences (versus opinions) to help me, and others, grow. Today is a holiday that's normally associated with being grateful for/with family and friends, but let's also remember the #humans that you see every day that isn't a holiday - who you truly spend the most time with. Be grateful for them too. Because with the examples given above, they don't have to but have chosen to help you/someone else. Be GRATEFUL and say THANK YOU to them as well. They may not know how (much) they've positively impacted you or someone else. As I reflect on Life in general, thank YOU to (some of) the people that inspired this post. I express my gratitude for this platform, where numerous intellects converge to encourage, support, and enrich one another through exchanging knowledge and wisdom. I intend to address the prevalent disconnection within the workforce, acknowledging the existence of remarkable tools to bridge this gap. Whether operating from home or within an office setting, our interactions with fellow colleagues and leaders emulate familial relationships, occasionally encountering dysfunctional periods. Analogous to personal relationships and family dynamics, workplace relationships necessitate certain commonalities not merely to coexist but to thrive. In addition to grace and patience, essential components include trust, fostering a sense of safety, mutual respect, the liberty to express oneself authentically, the capacity for forgiveness, aptitude for compromise, readiness to confront difficult discussions, and a steadfast commitment to resolving issues. Moreover, fostering a desire for connection and ensuring equality in addressing wants, needs, goals, and significant decisions are imperative. It's crucial to acknowledge that professionalism need not equate to rigidity, aloofness, disinterest, or lack of empathy. Rather, it entails maintaining a demeanor that fosters warmth, understanding, and mutual support amongst colleagues. Thank you, and have a blessed day!

Some people started their careers with great bosses, while others had tougher experiences with bosses who didn't support them much. Luckily, I was in the first group. My bosses were really supportive and helped me become the professional I am today. When I joined the team, my boss called us into his office. He greeted us warmly and said he was excited to see us grow. Before we started working, he shared five important tips to earn respect: 1. Speak less. 2. Always do more than expected. 3. Don't take credit or ask for too much. 4. Avoid complaining. 5. Don't gossip or talk badly about others. 6. Be thankful for what you have. Following these tips has not only shaped my career but also changed my professional journey for the better.

𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳. 'I am the story I tell myself about myself.' The perfect starting point to practice recognition is with yourself. The end of December is just the right time to take a moment to pat yourself on the back for what you've achieved this year. This act boosts and strengthens self-belief, it's like giving yourself a warm inner hug. When we tell ourselves 'I can, I managed', it instills confidence that no matter what the next year brings, we will handle it. Such a foundation and positive intention are more important now than ever. 💬 Share in the comments what you are grateful to yourself for this year. A specific quality, skill, or superpower that greatly helped when times were tough and unclear.

Recently, I've witnessed several exciting new milestones, new chapters, new discoveries, and new beginnings within my professional and personal networks. A few LinkedIn connections over the past few years have changed my life I started reaching out to almost anyone and everyone I thought could help me out when I was stuck, confused, stressed, and burnt out - looking for a way to unfuck my life. You see, when you are no one, it’s hard to get noticed. Hard to initiate a connection because obviously I hardly have anything to offer. Or so I thought. And in that period, despite the rejections and getting ghosted innumerous times, I continued reaching out and connecting, not with the intention of gaining something from them, but to build something meaningful. How does that happen, especially when you don’t share similar education or work backgrounds? You find a common ground before you elevate to a higher ground. This, in simpler terms, has helped me build a few but really strong relationships with people who share similar values and principles and are working toward achieving similar outcomes in their lives. This is what I call building my chosen family. People who are a part of my team. People with whom I love playing the game. I had no control in the place and people I was born into. But it’s a hundred percent my responsibility to create the environment I want to be live and work in. Yes, I can get a lot done by myself, but I have learned that to create something significant, sustainable and profitable, it’s better to have a good team around. So I continue reaching out and meeting new people on a very regular basis. I have built this in to my routine over the years. The rejections and ghosting are still an important part of the process. But it’s no longer tied with my self image and the value I know I am adding to my team and my family. If we have personally connected, even once, or if we are growing and building something together, I am grateful to you - for your time and energy.
