April 17: Wisdom is as infinite as God "The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding." Proverbs 4:7 What is wisdom? According to Webster’s Dictionary 1828, wisdom is defined as: “1. The right use or exercise of knowledge; the choice of laudable ends, and of the best means to accomplish them. 2. Quickness of intellect; readiness of apprehension; dexterity in execution.” In scripture theology, wisdom is true religion, godliness, piety, the knowledge and fear of God, and sincere and uniform obedience to His commands. Wisdom is as infinite as God Himself; as we increase in it, it increases in us. Wisdom is not solely knowledge. The two are often confused. Knowledge is taking in the information, and wisdom is applying that knowledge. Knowledge is the accumulation of facts, and wisdom is the correct application of those facts. If you want to be knowledgeable, study God’s Word. If you want to be wise, apply God’s Word. What then is understanding? Understanding refers to the ability to arrange facts. It has to do with insight and your perspective on life. Understanding is the ability to relate how every event in your life has to do with a far greater picture. Wise people have a combination of knowledge and understanding at work in them.

Consider Strategic Partnerships The men of Judah said to their relatives from the tribe of Simeon, “Join with us to fight against the Canaanites living in the territory allotted to us.” Judges 1:3 The objective in basketball is to score more points than the other team. The scoreboard logs how well each team did during the allotted time, but players are also recognized for the number of times they assist another player to score points. Every player has individual objectives, such as the desire to be on a Wheaties box, but the team works together to achieve common goals. They form a strategic alliance. The tribes of Judah and Simeon had similar goals. They also wanted to preserve their distinctiveness, so they formed an alliance. Each tribe contributed its own competencies and resources. Strategic alliances tend to succeed when both sides clearly understand the other’s reasons for participating, so be candid about your goals from the outset. Perhaps you have a big project looming that would benefit from a partnership with someone who shares a similar goal. You may not need to fight the battle alone.
