It’s estimated that around 1 in 10 women of reproductive age suffer from endometriosis. Yet, it takes an average of 7-10 years to receive a proper diagnosis. Numerous studies have highlighted the issue of women being taken less seriously by healthcare providers when it comes to reproductive health concerns. Research has shown that women's pain is more likely to be dismissed, minimised, or attributed to psychological factors compared to men's pain. This phenomenon is often referred to as "gender bias in healthcare." Recognising and addressing these biases is essential to ensure that women receive the proper level of care, validation, and treatment for their health issues. How? It’s more urgent than ever for companies to review coverage specifics and take action to strengthen their policies. I've truthfully never considered menopausal benefits when thinking of reproductive benefits employers should offer. I am grateful this article put a spotlight on this topic. During a time where the government is getting involved with controlling women's rights to bodily autonomy, considering adding a menopausal benefit would be huge for the 40+ person going through it. Let’s celebrate today’s International Day of Action for Women’s Health! 🎉 At Wemos, we are proud to be part of the Make Way programme. Make Way aims to break down barriers to sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), particularly for women and youth, by promoting intersectional advocacy for SRHR. Many women and girls lack the right and autonomy to make their own choices when it comes to their health and to access life-saving SRHR information and services. We need strong health systems to ensure the health and wellbeing of each of us, yet these systems require sufficient funding and resources to provide quality sexual and reproductive health services for everyone. UN Women state that there remains an alarming lack of financing for gender-equality measures, including for reproductive health, with a deficit of USD $360 billion. Make Way calls on governments worldwide to invest in resilient health systems to ensure that women and girls can access the SRHR information and services that they need.
