I've been getting a lot of questions lately about my approach to venture capital and why I haven't done a round for Caged Bird HR. So, I wanted to share the story here. When I launched Caged Bird HR two years ago, my focus wasn't on money or venture capital. It was about solving a problem. As the business quickly grew, I realized the need for funding. I started by taking on small business consulting gigs to support the company. After landing a $60k consulting contract with Kinetic Communities Consulting (KC3) four months in, Caged Bird HR started to gain traction through word of mouth, generating over $300k in revenue last year. While the business can stand on its own now, additional cash flow is always helpful. I continue to support KC3 to this day, and the relationship has been mutually beneficial for everyone involved. Caged Bird HR will be three years old next year and I still own 100% of everything. Despite the interest from VCs since July last year, I have delayed fundraising. The success of our upcoming sister brand launch in the HR AI SaaS space will greatly impact our funding plans. I initially considered raising money for the MVP but funded it with free cash flow from the successful NYC ad campaign instead. Looking ahead, the goal is to secure a seed or series A round in Q1 2025. The sister brand's performance will play a significant role in shaping the round. Stay tuned for what's to come—it's iconic and will transform the world of work.
