Insightful thought piece on a webinar we hosted yesterday. Thank you Swen Werner not just for listening so attentively, but putting in the time and thought to provide your analysis. A really important point Swen makes is that there is, of course, a key tradeoff in the statement "enable secure, atomic transactions across sovereign applications in the capital markets space”. To get true atomicity, as opposed to what Swen calls "Synthetic Atomicity" - which I would of course argue is not atomicity at all - you need some common protocol. Finding the optimal balance between commonality to get that atomicity and sovereignty is unlikely to be a debate settled anytime soon. Be that as it may, Canton Network demonstrates that that tradeoff can be made in ways that offers true atomicity and application interoperability while offering enough control and sovereignty to fulfil the needs to regulated financial enterprises. As far as I know, it is unique in doing so. Every other network either gives up controls to a degree that exclude regulated financial assets, or has to resort to "synthetic atomicity" via bridges. I realize that the density of "atomic" in this post may be even higher than in the pilot report, but the importance of the difference cannot be understated. ⚛ ⚛ ⚛ ⚛ ⚛ ⚛ ⚛ ⚛

In a space where profit maximalism runs rampant, a small but determined group is growing a "colony," an association operating both on-chain and off-chain to support the most resilient DeFi protocols and help them succeed: #DeFiCollective. This talk will provide an overview of what it does, its operations, and how, slowly but surely, it's turning into an unstoppable flywheel designed to support DeFi's public goods. Additionally, he will explain resilience in DeFi and how to evaluate it. Harnessing Hayden Adams's design tier list, it will discuss critical design choices at the protocol level and their impact on the sturdiness of the protocol produced.
