A recent study led by Professor Anna Ziersch from Flinders University followed 25 refugees and asylum seekers for three years. The study revealed that unstable housing significantly affects refugees' and asylum seekers' physical and mental health. Challenges such as language barriers, lack of rental references, discrimination, and difficulties in establishing social connections make it even more difficult for refugees and asylum seekers to secure stable housing, especially in the context of the broader housing crisis.  These findings align with the discussions we've had in the SETSCoP (Settlement Engagement and Transition Support Community of Practice) with settlement service providers who work to assist refugees and asylum seekers in finding suitable housing.
