🏛️ Heritage museum reconstruction project requirements are full of contradictions! 🔳 🔲 ⚫️ Design an appealing space - new space, new horizons ⚪️ Design a neutral space - the exhibit takes center stage ⚫️ Intervening - conteporary exhibitions demand contemporary spaces ⚪️ Not intervening - the curent structure are under strict protection! ⚫️ Expanding capacities for museum exhibits and storage ⚪️ Staying within the size limits - expansion is not possible due to heritage protection Finiding a solution means playing for "both teams". It's real estate fact wednesday. The Wyckoff House or Pieter Claesen Wyckoff House has been standing since 1652, making it the oldest building in New York City. It was declared a National historic landmark in 1967. The house is now a museum. We love going to places like Paris, Madrid and London not only to admire their history but also to live (for a few days or weeks) the type of life which we secretly (or not so secretly) admire. We think that we cannot go back to that architecture because it no longer reflects us yet that way of thinking (when compared to the centuries of our history) is relatively recent. So I ask, can we build like this again for us, for our children and for future generations? I believe Audubon Terrace at 155 and Broadway and Home of the Hispanic Society is proof that we can.
