SVP Farming Solutions Europe | Business transformation ⎮ Food systems⎮ Sustainability⎮ Digital innovation ⎮ Value creation ⎮ Growth

The announcement of the PepsiCo Europe and Yara Europe partnership today is a concrete case showing that it is possible to drive much needed change in the global food system. Food production accounts for more than a quarter of the global GHG emissions, and systematic changes need to take place to reduce the emissions drastically. Driving transformation in the global food system is a complex task – but this partnership shows that it is possible!   Working to shape this partnership for many months, there are many learnings, and I wanted to share a few reflections on what it takes. The foundation of the partnership is the commitment from both PepsiCo and Yara to make change happen and the willingness to invest in it. Thorough work detailing out how the activities on the ground will be carried out – and how farmers will benefit are already being tested in practice. Practical in field work and involvement of farmers was started in parallel with partnership discussions.   Solutions to be used are dependent on new technology for production of physical fertilizer and precision farming tools, both in rapid development. There are uncertainties related to regulations and how the impact can be included in ESG reporting. In the partnership these are elements we will tackle together. By building the approach on research and science we know that the outcome will have significant positive impact on nature, and we trust that regulations and reporting will recognize this.   Last but not least, the teams developing the partnership in PepsiCo and Yara deserve a big shout-out! The open discussions and forward leaning approach have led us to a partnership where we are moving far beyond a pilot stage – this is a large-scale commitment at commercial scale. Making the partnership a reality takes a perfect combination of patience, impatience, resilience, commitment and hard work. You demonstrated all of that! Looking forward to realizing the partnership and encouraging other companies to engage in the transformation of the food system. Change is needed urgently – let’s make it happen! https://lnkd.in/dXxK6V35
