5 Lessons Learned at the WCRP Sea Level Conference 2022     One of the biggest challenges is bridging the latest sea-level science and its implementation. Last week, the WCRP Sea Level Conference took a significant step towards closing the gap. My takeaways in this thread/post!     The key to effective implementation is having scientists and practitioners work hand in hand. For the first time, a WCRP conference brought together scientists and practitioners under one roof. We must continue to foster two-way communication.    No scenario stops sea level rise. Projects have a start and end date, but scientists must continue to advance our understanding of sea level science to mitigate the existential threat of sea level rise in the coming decades and centuries.     Adaptation planning is a complex science. Coastal resilience and adaptation planning are complex, and sea level is only one of the many components involved. I’m inspired by what practitioners have been working on to address these complexities and propose adaptation solutions.     Scientists will always thrive to improve sea level projections and uncertainty. Scientists will always strive to improve sea level projections and uncertainty, particularly at the regional levels, because we need this information for effective adaptation planning.     There is a massive lack of equity in access to coastal protection and adaptation solutions. This is a disheartening truth, but some countries can, while most countries can’t. In the end, people learn to adapt even if nothing is done.     The conference successfully brought scientists and practitioners together and ensured gender, career, and geographical distribution were all considered.  To effectively adapt to the changing climate, we must continue to share the latest climate-related sea-level research and focus on applying sea-level science for adaptation and stakeholder needs. #climatechange #sealevelrise
